Glimmer

So many of you were drawn to this painting at the Mango Art Festival. Many of you paused and spent time with it, sharing how deeply it resonated with you. Some said it felt peaceful, others described it as very quiet. One gentleman told me he could hear the birds and the fish in the water. All unprompted. All genuine. And beautifully raw.

I felt deeply moved by your responses and the connection so many of you felt with this piece. It reminded me that sometimes a quiet landscape speaks straight to the heart.

For me: Glimmer reflects the quiet hope we hold on to in times of uncertainty. The light shimmering on the water reminds me of our ability to mirror the light above us and find moments of joy. Sometimes even the faintest glimmer is enough to show us the way.

When I began painting these two pieces, I didn’t intend for them to be connected. But as the work unfolded, it slowly became clear that one was leading me to the other. I painted Rooted(left) first, and then Lifted(right) followed.

I love them individually, but now I can’t imagine them apart.

Lifted reflects the quiet power of light. How it finds us even in the darkest moments.

When life feels heavy, light gently holds us and reminds us to keep going.

Like trees reaching through the landscape, we grow toward the light.

Below, the river continues its quiet journey, guiding us along the path.

In time, little by little, we are lifted and we find our strength again.

Rooted reflects where we come from.
Not just as individuals, but as part of something larger.

From the same earth, the same dust,
growing in different directions
yet held by the same ground beneath us.

Like trees in the landscape, our roots reach deep into the soil while we rise toward the light.

A river moves gently through it all,
a quiet thread connecting us,
guiding us along the path.

And in the end, we return quietly
to the earth that carries us all.

Many people were drawn to this painting at the show and asked where it is. The easiest answer would be to name a place, but most of my paintings aren’t based on a real location. They may begin with the memory of a place, but they often become something else.

My landscapes are reflections of a feeling or a state of mind. I’m drawn to the quiet moments in nature and the calm and stillness we sometimes find there. My hope is that when someone looks at my paintings, they can pause for a moment and enter that quiet space too.
