Our first community vote has ended 🌱
The Nature Conservancy was chosen as this month's organization to support.
For anyone who voted — or anyone wondering where that choice leads — here's a little more about what they actually do.
The Nature Conservancy works with local communities, scientists, governments and other partners to protect and restore the living systems we are all part of.
In Indonesia's Riau Islands, their recent work helped create new protected areas across waters filled with coral reefs, mangrove forests and seagrass meadows — places where countless forms of life find food, shelter and room to reproduce, including the communities who have built their lives around these waters.
In Mongolia, they have been working alongside local communities to protect rivers, lakes and wetlands shared by wildlife, livestock and people. Water doesn't really care about the boundaries we draw around it.
And in the Seychelles, years of collective work helped shape a new plan for an area of ocean twice the size of France — giving whales, manta rays and endangered sea turtles more room to live, while protecting the fisheries that people rely on too.
Three votes decided our first round.
It's a very small beginning, but that's also what we like about the board: nobody decides on behalf of everyone else where the support should go. The choice belongs to whoever walks through the space and takes a moment to participate.
Thank you to everyone who did. ❤️
The board is now ready for the next round.
