Several of the artist’s works explore themes related to Buddhist monks and Buddhism through news reports and contemporary social phenomena. These observations lead the artist to consider the connections between religious institutions, rank, wealth, power, and politics.

In particular, the notion of “candidates” for positions within the monastic order raises a question: why do such processes appear to resemble political competition, when the monastic system is traditionally understood to be grounded in seniority, years of ordination, and Buddhist principles?

Rather than focusing on monks as individuals, these works invite viewers to examine the structures, power relations, and external influences that intersect with religion in contemporary society.

This painting began with an ordinary moment: the artist observed escalators moving in opposite directions—one ascending, the other descending. This simple image evokes the rhythm of human life, unfolding between birth, transition, and cessation.

The escalators on either side represent paths that never stand still. Some lives are moving upward while others are descending, much like joy and sorrow, encounters and farewells, all alternating within the same cycle. At the centre stands a clock without hands—a symbol of time without a true beginning or end, a space in which birth and death may not be separate, but rather interconnected parts of an ongoing continuum.

Arising and Passing Away is therefore not merely about an endpoint. It invites us to see life as movement: rising, falling, beginning, and ending beneath the quiet, uninterrupted passage of time.

-ในนิทรรศการครั้งนี้ เทียนชัยหยิบจับเศษเสี้ยวจากชีวิตจริงสุดค้นหูคุ้นตาและคุ้นในความทรงจำ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นข่าวสาร ความขัดแย้งทางการเมือง ความเหลื่อมล้ำ ความสูญเสีย มาถอดรหัสและประกอบสร้างใหม่เป็นภาพจิตรกรรมเหนือจริง เขาไม่ได้เล่าเรื่องตรงไปตรงมา แต่จัดวางบุคคล สัญลักษณ์ และพื้นที่อันหลากหลายให้อยู่ร่วมกันในสภาวะที่คลาดเคลื่อน เพื่อรบกวนความคุ้นเคยเดิมๆ ของผู้ชม-

The Ramakien: The Battle for the Golden Bowl

The four giants in this work are inspired by characters from the Ramakien, Thailand’s national epic. They represent struggle and the pursuit of what one desires. The composition places the four giants around Hanuman at the centre, echoing the form and symbolic presence of the Democracy Monument.

Through this arrangement, the artist reflects on power as something contested by different forces. Their struggle becomes a metaphor for the pursuit of authority—the right to shape governance and to claim the highest power embodied by the constitution. The work invites viewers to consider the relationship between power, rivalry, and the meaning of governance within society.

The Plight of Thai Farmers (ทุกข์ของชาวนา)

This work reflects the hardships endured by Thai farmers, who face the uncertainty of nature year after year. Floods, droughts, and shifting seasonal patterns directly affect their land, harvests, and livelihoods.

Beyond the image of natural disaster, however, the work also raises questions about the management of water resources. Although these recurring problems persist each year, effective and sustainable solutions remain unclear. The suffering of farmers, therefore, is not caused by nature alone, but also reflects broader structural conditions that leave them bearing the same consequences time and again.
