My interpretation of my walk through Barranco del In****no - Tenerife this morning.

Definitely recommend if you like some unique plants and flowers, vulcanic rock and great views. Finding two treefrogs was a lovely surprise.

Spring is in the air.. Goldeneye 'drakes' are showing of their skills, and the the females are picking the prettiest ones.

It was quite inspiring to walk along the Thai forest trails with three lenses on my back. Switching my attention to landscapes, wildlife far away, and structure and texture of plants up close. I've got a lot to learn about tropical plants, but I can certainly appreciate their beauty. Loved exploring the different shades of green, yellow and red, light refractions and funky structures the plants formed into.

I had my first go at exploring bamboo forests in Thailand. Definitely have a lot to learn about this habitat, but the striking atmosphere caused by scattering light and straight lines everywhere did get me hooked. Or maybe it was the obvious trails, made by elephants barging through the thickets in the search for fresh bamboo shoots? It felt like being an ant crawling through the grasses in a rough lawn. I mostly found the bamboo on the steeper hills amongst evergreen decidious forests.

Does Thailand contain more or less species of "Odonata" or "dragonflies and damselflies" compared to reptiles? More! No less 357 species are recorded there! And it was obvious during my visit in November last year. I explored many streams and ponds in search for everything crawling around, but these insect usually stole the show. Orange, green, purple, yellow and blue, as broght as neon light and reflectors flashing over the tropical waters. It is one of the most spectacular sight in nature for me. Its quite exciting to think giant dragonflies once hovered in the skies when oxygen levels on earth were higher millions of years ago!

There are about 260 species of lizards in Thailand. I tried to find quite a few during my time there. Most of them are geckos, mostly small, usually nocturnal reptiles with a soft skin. They also possess a short stout body and the ends of each limb are often equipped with digits possessing adhesive pads. Calotes versicolor on the other hand is a very common and widespread member of the Agamidae, a group of lizards that are more upright, not dragging their bellies over the ground.

The only way to properly explore the lake in Khao Sok National Park within my budget was to book an "adventurous nature tour". It involved a stop at an "authentic" local market, a trip around stunning landscapes on these long boats, a cave visit including some bats, a nature walk and lunch on a floating restaurant. All a bit ridiculised by the tourist guide if you ask me.

After the lunch break I had the opportunity to do some solo kayaking/birdwatching/exploring the lake, I wish it was possible to just do that the whole day. I saw the great hornbill and some monkeys in proper jungle habitat.

Luckily, the irony calcerous stone outcrops, jungle, and misty atmosphere were tremendous throughout.

Thailand loves to promote its waterfalls. Almost every national park has a few to show of with. Most of them fall short of what was promised, but some of them are well worth the effort. I came across this one during a walk with a local guide. After the walk I decided to turn back around and explore the features in more detail with my lenses. Amazing to see plants holding on to the rocks in such extreme conditions.

I spend some time hiking and camping in 5 different national parks in Thailand. The main goal was to be blown away by everything nature had to offer, and it worked.

There are 24 species of Macaque (genus Macaca) in the world, five of them are found in Thailand. I observed this one hanging around at my first campsite in Thailand, in Khao Yai National Park. Generally well behaved and foraging for fruits, I also witnessed one attack on the lumch of an unsuspecting thai tourist.

Monkeys play a key role, dispersing seeds from fruits, to encourage woodland regeneration in newly regenerating areas. Primates are a joy to watch, and a good reminder of the fact that we aren't so different after all.
