So honoured to have Bang Nee share his stories about local activism and conservation practices in a small Muslim community in Chana District, Songkhla.

Rungrueang Rahmanyah, known as B’Nee (Bang Nee), is a local Muslim fisherman whose life has closely connected with the sea since childhood. He is also a “dulam” or an aquatic listener who has a rare indigenous knowledge of Songkhla’s Chana District. Moreover, B’Nee is an activist campaigning against marine habitat destruction, particularly the government construction projects on Songkhla Deep-Sea Port and Thepha Power Station. The Suankong Museum of Nature is another project ran by B’Nee and his fellows, aimed at bringing young people close to nature and empowering them to protect the natural resource of their homeland.

รุ่งเรือง ระหมันยะ หรือ บังนี เป็นชาวประมงมุสลิมท้องถิ่นผู้ใช้ชีวิตผูกพันกับท้องทะเลมาตั้งแต่เด็ก เขายังเป็น “ดูหลำ” หรือคนฟังเสียงปลาอันเป็นภูมิปัญญาของพรานทะเลแห่งอำเภอจะนะซึ่งเหลือผู้สืบทอดเพียงไม่กี่คนในปัจจุบัน นอกจากนี้ บังนียังเป็นนักเคลื่อนไหวคนสำคัญที่ลุกต่อต้านการทำลายทรัพยากรทางทะเลมาโดยตลอด โดยเฉพาะโครงการก่อสร้างท่าเรือน้ำลึกที่หาดสวนกง อำเภอจะนะ และโครงการสร้างโรงไฟฟ้าถ่านหิน อำเภอเทพา พิพิธภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติบ้านสวนกงถือเป็นอีกหนึ่งโครงการที่บังนีขับเคลื่อนร่วมกับคนในชุมชนในการจัดกิจกรรมและสร้างพลังที่เข็มแข็งในหมู่คนรุ่นใหม่เพื่อเป็นเกราะป้องกันทรัพยากรธรรมชาติอันเป็นแหล่งทำมาหากินของคนในบ้านเกิดของตนสืบไป
