Today we celebrate the 56th anniversary of Emperor Haile Selassie's arrival in Kingston, Jamaica, where he was greeted by around 100,000 Rastafari from all over Jamaica. When the door of his plane finally swung open, and the emperor appeared at the top of the steps, the noise of the drums, firecrackers, and Abeng horns was deafening. Because he wanted to make contact with the soil, he refused to walk on the red carpet on the way to his limousine, hence Grounation Day.
