In the quiet valleys five kilometers from Tatale, the Bassari people forged their legacy not with words, but with fire. The place once called Chaachimang was a humble settlement of farmers and hunters, where the rhythm of life followed the seasons. But when the first iron sparks flew, the land began to hum with a new purpose.

Men shaped glowing metal into hoes, cutlasses, and spears tools that turned wilderness into wealth.

Villagers from near and far came to trade, their footsteps echoing the promise of progress. The settlement grew, its name reborn as Bitchaabi, meaning “the iron men.”

Bitchaabi became more than a market it was a symbol of Bassari ingenuity where craftsmanship met community, and labor became pride.

From the mountains of Chaachimang rose a people whose hands could bend metal and destiny alike. The iron men of Bitchaabi remind every generation that creation is sacred, and that the forge is the heartbeat of Bassari strength.
