من فترة نزلت صور وكتبت قدّيش كان بالنسبة إلي بشع إنّي وصلت التكيّة ولقيت الباب مسكّر، وحسّيت إني فقدت بوصلتي بدمشق.

هلق فتت وصوّرت، كنت بالتكيّة لحالي تماماً، حسّيت إنه المكان إلي وبس. كتير متغيّر، بس لسا في نفس الطاقة القديمة. مكان بنص العجقة، بس هادي. بزعل إنهم قطعوا الشجر وحفروا الأرض.

عقبال ما يرجعوا يفتحوا المحلات وترجعله روحه اللي بتشبّه حالته.
التكيّة السليمانيّة.

A while ago, I posted some pictures and wrote about how upsetting it was for me to reach the Tekkiye and find the gate closed. I felt like I had lost my compass in Damascus.

Today, I went inside and took some pictures. I was completely alone in the Tekkiye, and it felt like the place belonged to me and only me. It has changed a lot, but it still carries the same old energy. A place in the middle of all the hustle, yet so calm. It saddens me that they cut down the trees and dug up the ground.

Hopefully, the shops will reopen, and its spirit, which reflects its essence, will return.

من الأماكن اللي كتير بحبها بالشام هو بناء العابد بساحة المرجة.
بناه أحمد عزت العابد عام 1906 على الطراز الأوروبي بنكهة شرقية.

فيه أقدم محل شاورما بالشام (حسب ما بعرف)، وفيه محل حلويات بيبيع بغاجه.
بحب مر بهالمكان كتير، وبحب الشعور اللي باخده منه، بين عظمة البناء وبساطة الزوار.
بحس إنه "شاهد صامت على تغير الزمن وحكايات دمشق القديمة."

One of my favorite places in Damascus is the Abed Building in Marjeh Square.
It was built by Ahmad Izzat Al-Abed in 1906 in a European style with an Eastern touch.

There's the oldest shawarma shop in Damascus (as far as I know) and a sweets shop that sells baghajeh.
I love passing by this place a lot, and I love the feeling it gives me, between the grandeur of the building and the simplicity of its visitors.
I feel like it’s a “silent witness to the changing times and the stories of old Damascus.”
