Fire Breaks Out at Custom Market

Under him served two brave Generals

3.His speaker Majiek chuong

Gen. John Kong Nyuon, who passed away on 26 December 2022 in Nairobi was one of South Sudan’s longest-serving commanders. His life was tied to every major phase of the struggle for independence

The Wars He Fought
Kong joined the Anyanya One movement in 1964 as a young man. He fought through the First Sudanese Civil War, rising to the rank of captain while serving in different garrisons. When war resumed in 1983, he was part of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army/Movement from the start
He commanded the 104th and 105th Battalions under Lt. Col. William Nyuon Bany In 1987 he was promoted to Alternate Commander and became Deputy Commander of Shakush Battalion under James Wani Igga In 1992 he was Overall Commander of Operation Jungle Storm, the SPLA’s push toward Juba. By 1993 he was appointed Commander of the Independent Area Command for Yei and Kajo Keji, and also sat on the SPLA Leadership Council. He remained in the field through the Second Sudanese Civil War until the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005

Posts He Served Under
After the CPA, Kong moved into political and security roles. In 2007 he was appointed Presidential Security Advisor under President Salva Kiir. Following independence on 9 July 2011 he became South Sudan’s first Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs. In that role he helped lay the foundation for the new army and the transition from guerrilla force to national defense In 2013 he was appointed Governor of Jonglei State during a turbulent period of ethnic violence and rebellion
His Legacy
Kong was known as a nationalist who avoided tribal politics.

His bravery isn’t about guns but moral courage growing up amid South Sudan’s hardships Ivan chose service over silence Today he works with a humanitarian organization delivering aid to displaced families, supporting education for children and advocating for peace in Fangak he navigates tough terrain and insecurity to reach the most vulnerable putting community before comfort
