✨ Not every illustration makes it into a book...

These little hedgehogs were part of Baptiste's journey for a long time, but in the end they had to stay behind. The story was becoming a little too long, and sometimes creating a book means making difficult choices.

I still love these tiny characters, so I thought they deserved a little moment to shine here. 💛

After seven years, my book is finally out in the world!

Seven years ago, a little spider visited me in a dream. That dream became Little Baptiste. In French, a spider's web is called une toile - the very same word we use for an artist's canvas. I always loved that connection.

Every illustration in this book was painted by hand with watercolor, and I wrote every word myself. I wanted to create the kind of book I loved as a child: soft watercolor illustrations, rhyming text, and a story that makes you grow.

Over the past two years, I sent Baptiste to around 60 publishers. Most never replied, and many of those who did felt my style wasn't what they were looking for. It was disappointing, but I couldn't let this little spider remain hidden in a drawer.

Today, he's finally ready to meet the world.

I know Amazon is often criticized for being such a large company, and I understand those concerns. But I'm also grateful that it gave an independent creator like me the opportunity to publish this book and make it accessible, not only to my family and friends, but to children and families anywhere in the world.

If there's one thing this journey has taught me, it's that creativity asks for patience, courage, and perseverance. Sometimes dreams take years to become reality. Sometimes they take many rejections, too. But they're still worth believing in. Baptiste's story is my story in so many ways 😊.

This book is about what happens when you stop trying to convince others, and start creating for the sheer love of it.

There's a moment in the book where Baptiste stops weaving for others. Not because he gives up. But because he finally weaves just for himself, not for someone else, with no hope of recognition, no expectation of applause.
And that's the moment everything turns.

I think about that a lot. How often we create for the wrong audience, and how freeing it is when we stop.

It is also a story about perseverance and the importance of carrying on despite obstacles. Creating art requires patience, practice, and the courage to keep going when facing moments of doubt.

It's a message for children. But I think we all need reminding sometimes.

Baptiste is aimed at children aged 3 to 8. There is a french and an english version.

The book follows the four seasons, which makes it easy to revisit throughout the year. Each season, Baptiste weaves again. Each season, something shifts a little.

For educators and parents, it opens conversations about:
- Why do we make art?
- Does it matter if others don't like what we create?
- How do we treat things (and beings) we don't understand?

It also gently introduces spiders as the extraordinary creatures they are, and invites to look at them differently.

They are a "she" but some spiders are males, so it also questions the gender we give to animals.

Every illustration in this book was painted by hand using watercolor and ink.

From the first pencil lines to the final layers of color, each page slowly took shape piece by piece.

Spiders are often feared or misunderstood.

Yet they are extraordinary architects!

Their webs are delicate works of art, an engineering masterpiece. Spider silk is stronger than steel by weight, more elastic than nylon, and each web is built fresh, designed for the specific space, the specific light, the specific wind of that morning.

She doesn't get discouraged. She doesn't wait for applause. She just weaves, because that's what she does, and she does it beautifully.

I find that rather inspiring. A small spider taught me something about creativity that I wanted to pass on to children.
