Today marks 7 years since my first solo show in Toronto back in 2019.

At the time, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I somehow managed to pull together a body of work that was essentially every piece I had painted up to that point, along with a few new works that helped round out my very loose concept.

I found a space, convinced a friend of a friend to DJ, and invited pretty much every person I knew in Toronto, along with everyone I happened to cross paths with in the weeks leading up to the show. Two of my best friends even flew in from Vancouver and Calgary just to be there and support me.

Thankfully, the show was a resounding success and ended up being a near sellout.

Selling work to friends was one thing, but the real test, and one of the most rewarding parts, was seeing complete strangers connect with my work enough to take a piece home with them.

Seven years later, I’ve had the opportunity to show my work in countless exhibitions around the world, while continuing to refine both my practice and the ideas behind it. And somehow, the feeling of someone discovering my work for the first time still never gets old.

The support from my friends and family has remained unwavering throughout this journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for every person who has believed in me, supported my work, or simply taken the time to stop and look.

7 years down. Still learning, still evolving, still painting.

Turns out continuity is harder than painting. This hand is one of six in the piece. I started with it in its final position, then somehow switched to painting it reaching up. I stitched both together so the timelapse is only mildly confusing. Have fun with that.
