PRESERVING CULTURE, PROTECTING DIGNITY, & ENDING FGM
The Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM Sierra Leone) believes that protecting women and girls does not require abandoning the cultural values that define our communities.
Bloodless Rite of Passage demonstrates that culture and protection can move forward together. It preserves the teachings, mentoring, traditional songs, dances, community values, and the meaningful transition into womanhood while removing the harmful physical cutting.
Importantly, the Bloodless approach is designed for mature young women above 18 years of age who freely consent to participate, responding to concerns around age and consent while promoting dignity, safety and informed participation.
At AIM Sierra Leone, our message is clear: we are not against culture; we are committed to reforming harmful practices within culture to protect the lives, health and dignity of women and girls.
We envision a Sierra Leone where communities can proudly preserve their heritage while ensuring that no girl or woman has to suffer harm in the name of tradition.
Bloodless caters to all; culture can live, women can be protected, and FGM can end.
