10 Life Lessons to Learn from M***i Yaks Death
It’s no longer a news that our brother M***i Yaks is no more with us. We ask Allah to shower His mercy upon him and grant him the highest of paradise. I wasn’t his fan though yet his death has thought all of us so many lessons.
In no particular order, I will list 10 lessons learnt from his death, each is important but please pay keen attention to lesson 4.
1. This life is short. He was just a young boy at the age of 20. And death didn’t spare him due to his age.
2. As the world is filled with young people today who choose football celebrities and musicians as role models, he decided to choose M***i Menk as his role model. Using the Quran to inspire others.
3. While our Muslim youths (men and women) of today and especially our Hijabi sisters are busy using the social media for dancing, displaying of nakedness, promoting music and indecency, our brother had hundreds of thousands of followers who were benefitting from his short reminders.
4. He has left social media accounts that will continue to benefit mankind. As I mentioned, I wasn’t his fan but due to his death, I immediately went online and watched some of his inspiring videos. A time to ask yourself, after you die, will your social media accounts promote goodness and be a sadaqatul jariah for you in your grave or would they still serve as a reservoir or a factory producing vices and sins on your behalf. What would you lose if you stop using the social media promoting what Allah has forbidden? Think!
5. His death has made news globally. Yes! A 20 year old guy is being
6. After his death, he has received thousands if not hundreds of thousands of duas from those who know him and those who do not know him.
He led a life inspiring others. So his death meant a lot to many. Will you receive such duas after your death? Have you led a life inspiring others or you’re just on social media for the likes and comments; which even hardly come by.
7. Death is sudden. You don’t need to be sick for a week or a month before death comes. Many think death is far away because they are healthy. Our brother just experienced a brief illness and he was taken away from this Dunia.
8. Gaining popularity (even though it shouldn’t be the aim of your Dawah work) is not just by promoting nudity. As a young man, he used Islam to gain popularity across Africa and beyond. Even the work of Dawah can make you popular. Sharing Hadith or Quranic verses will still give you the likes, comments and follows. Had it not been for promoting Islam, he would have lived and died in Nigeria and not even a handful would be aware of his death.
9. Seeking Islamic Knowledge at a young age is very essential. Our brother excelled through social media with his Islamic “M***i” vibes. Without him gaining Islamic knowledge at a young age, he wouldn’t have been able to do what he did in the name of Islam. And his Islamic knowledge gained as a young man, helped him to live a life in accordance of the Deen and preaching Islam at a tender age.
10. Always plan for your exit even though you know not when. Can’t believe that at age 20, this young man owns his own website, where his little efforts of Deen can be access. He planned his life earlier and didn’t think that he was too young to do all this, so he should be enjoying his life and wait till he is older. He prepared for death early, he planned his exit well and all we do now is to continue to ask Allah to pardon him for his shortcomings and grant him Jannah. Aameen
