"For now, this Sierra Leone new currency is not as valuable as we hoped—it’s a sad reality."

When the redenomination was first introduced, many believed it would stabilize the economy, simplify transactions, and restore confidence in the Leone. Unfortunately, the opposite seems to be happening. Prices of goods and services continue to rise, while the actual purchasing power of the new notes remains very low.

A bundle of money, like the one in the picture, may look impressive, but in reality, it often can't cover even basic needs like rent, food, or transportation. Inflation is biting hard, and salaries haven’t been adjusted to match the economic pressure.

People are struggling, and unless meaningful reforms follow the currency change, this “new Leone” risks becoming just a repackaged symbol of the same old hardship.
