KAIR Kosice Artist in Residence International artist-in-residency program for emerging artists from all over the world and out of all artistic disciplines.

In the frame of “European Capital of Culture” the NGO “Kosice 2013” developed an international artist-in-residency-program for emerging artists from all over the world and out of all artistic disciplines and expressions. We give them the possibility to become a cultural pioneer and work in the inspiring environment of Kosice's singular cultural surrounding to realize art projects, collaborate with

the agile local art scene and present themself to the local and national public. We pursuit three main goals within this residence project:
1. Support the creative energy of every invited artist and give him/her the chance to work in a new and very special environment to find (new) artistic ways to express herself/himself.
2. Stimulate the art scene in Kosice, in the region and in whole Slovakia. Support the dialogue as well as the confrontation of the residency-artists with local artists and the wide public.
3. Create/strengthen a beneficial environment for the development of innovative and international contemporary art projects with international and local participants. Process

One the one hand, we do bilateral exchanges of artists with partners in several countries like Ukraine, Slovenia, Moldova and Germany. These artists are recommended and selected by a jury of Kosice 2013 and our partner organisations. On the other hand, an international open call each year invites artists to apply for our residency program. With the recommendation of a jury of local and international experts, we choose the artists, who attract attention through particular quality, who propose a high level of engagement with the cultural and social environment of the city and region and who is emerging artist instead of already established. The invited artists can choose out of three terms during the whole year and live and work for up to three months in Kosice. According to our main goals, our team introduces every artist in the social environment of the city and the region and help them to build up networks and collaborations with local artists. We organise public events like lectures, projections, workshops and open studios to give every artist the chance to introduce and present themself to a wide public. A final exhibition/presentation shows the working process during the stay of each artist.

Svoju tvorbu počas podujatia predstavila naša rezidenčná umelkyňa z Maďarska Dorottya Poór Dotty Rich. Výstavou PARADOX BLÍZKOSTI návštevníkov sprevádzala samotná autorka Ráchel Jutka spoločne s kurátorkou Petrou Houskovou. Súčasťou programu bol aj maliarsky workshop, ktorý viedla práve Rachel Jutka.🎨🖌️

Ďakujeme organizátorom a najmä vám, návštevníkom, za úžasnú atmosféru, ktorú sa nám podarilo spoločne vytvoriť. 🙌

The first edition of Open Studios at Šopa Gallery and the KAIR Kosice Artist in Residence is successfully behind us! ✨

During the event, our artist-in-residence from Hungary, Dorottya Poór Dotty Rich, presented her work. Visitors were guided through the exhibition PARADOX OF CLOSENESS by the artist herself, Ráchel Jutka, alongside curator Petra Housková. The program also featured a painting workshop led by Ráchel Jutka. 🎨🖌️

Huge thanks to the organizers and especially to you, the visitors, for the amazing atmosphere we managed to create together! 🙌

Čo budeme na workshope robiť?
Účastníci a účastníčky využijú svoje (často odsudzované) ľudské tendencie preháňať, predsudzovať alebo vypĺňať medzery v príbehoch, ktoré niekde začuli, aby si vytvorili vlastný krátky komiks.

📅Kedy: 16.5. od 17:30 – 18:30 (Trvanie: 1 hodina)
🎨Zručnosti: Vítaní sú všetci bez ohľadu na úroveň kreslenia. Skúsenosti nie sú potrebné!
🌍Jazyk: Workshop prebehne v angličtine (v prípade potreby zabezpečíme preklad).
✨ Podujatie: Workshop je súčasťou Košickej noci múzeí a galérií.

Join us to create your own mini-comic and master the art of storytelling! The Power of Gossip: workshop w/ Dorottya Poór

What to Expect?
Participants will tap into the (often criticized) human tendencies to exaggerate, prejudge, or fill in the gaps of stories they’ve overheard to create their own short comic.

📅 When: May 16th, 17:30 – 18:30 (Duration: 1 hour)
🎨Skills: Everyone is welcome, regardless of drawing ability. No prior experience is necessary!
🌍 Language: The workshop will be held in English (translation provided if needed).
✨ Event: This workshop is part of the Košice Night of Museums and Galleries.
