KAIR Kosice Artist in Residence International artist-in-residency program for emerging artists from all over the world and out of all artistic disciplines.

In the frame of “European Capital of Culture” the NGO “Kosice 2013” developed an international artist-in-residency-program for emerging artists from all over the world and out of all artistic disciplines and expressions. We give them the possibility to become a cultural pioneer and work in the inspiring environment of Kosice's singular cultural surrounding to realize art projects, collaborate with

the agile local art scene and present themself to the local and national public. We pursuit three main goals within this residence project:
1. Support the creative energy of every invited artist and give him/her the chance to work in a new and very special environment to find (new) artistic ways to express herself/himself.
2. Stimulate the art scene in Kosice, in the region and in whole Slovakia. Support the dialogue as well as the confrontation of the residency-artists with local artists and the wide public.
3. Create/strengthen a beneficial environment for the development of innovative and international contemporary art projects with international and local participants. Process

One the one hand, we do bilateral exchanges of artists with partners in several countries like Ukraine, Slovenia, Moldova and Germany. These artists are recommended and selected by a jury of Kosice 2013 and our partner organisations. On the other hand, an international open call each year invites artists to apply for our residency program. With the recommendation of a jury of local and international experts, we choose the artists, who attract attention through particular quality, who propose a high level of engagement with the cultural and social environment of the city and region and who is emerging artist instead of already established. The invited artists can choose out of three terms during the whole year and live and work for up to three months in Kosice. According to our main goals, our team introduces every artist in the social environment of the city and the region and help them to build up networks and collaborations with local artists. We organise public events like lectures, projections, workshops and open studios to give every artist the chance to introduce and present themself to a wide public. A final exhibition/presentation shows the working process during the stay of each artist.

Počas tohto leta v Košiciach privítame bieloruského umelca a spisovateľa pôsobiaceho v Prahe – Yuryho Beryozkina! 🌿🎨

Yury vo svojej multidisciplinárnej tvorbe spája keramiku, inštaláciu, tvorivé písanie a participatívne umenie. Vo svojej praxi stiera hranice medzi mytológiou, ekológiou a technológiou. Jeho ústredným motívom je Strom života a mycéliové siete, pričom na vyjadrenie tém kolektívnej pamäte a transformácie často využíva hlinu, text či dokonca vlastné veštecké karty.

This summer, we are excited to welcome Prague-based Belarusian artist and writer Yury Beryozkin to Košice! 🌿🎨

In his multidisciplinary practice, Yury combines ceramics, installation, creative writing, and participatory art, blurring the boundaries between mythology, ecology, and technology. A central motif in his work is the Tree of Life and mycelial networks. To explore themes of collective memory and transformation, he often works with clay, text, and even his own custom oracle cards.

Počas najbližšieho mesiaca bude našou rezidentkou Zoë De Luca Legge, milánska kurátorka a výskumníčka pracujúca na priesečníku postnaturálnych štúdií, transfeminizmu a ekológie.

Vo svojich projektoch vytvára priestory pre kolektívne učenie, starostlivosť a ekologickú predstavivosť. Prostredníctvom kurátorských, publikačných a výskumných formátov skúma možnosti spolužitia naprieč druhmi a formami života.

During the next month, we are delighted to welcome Zoë De Luca Legge as our new resident. Zoë is curator and researcher, whose practice unfolds at the intersection of postnatural studies, transfeminism, and ecology.

Through her curatorial, publishing, and research-based projects, Zoë creates spaces for collective learning, care, and ecological imagination. Her work explores possibilities for coexistence across species and forms of life, while fostering alternative modes of collaboration and knowledge production.

Svoju tvorbu počas podujatia predstavila naša rezidenčná umelkyňa z Maďarska Dorottya Poór Dotty Rich. Výstavou PARADOX BLÍZKOSTI návštevníkov sprevádzala samotná autorka Ráchel Jutka spoločne s kurátorkou Petrou Houskovou. Súčasťou programu bol aj maliarsky workshop, ktorý viedla práve Rachel Jutka.🎨🖌️

Ďakujeme organizátorom a najmä vám, návštevníkom, za úžasnú atmosféru, ktorú sa nám podarilo spoločne vytvoriť. 🙌

The first edition of Open Studios at Šopa Gallery and the KAIR Kosice Artist in Residence is successfully behind us! ✨

During the event, our artist-in-residence from Hungary, Dorottya Poór Dotty Rich, presented her work. Visitors were guided through the exhibition PARADOX OF CLOSENESS by the artist herself, Ráchel Jutka, alongside curator Petra Housková. The program also featured a painting workshop led by Ráchel Jutka. 🎨🖌️

Huge thanks to the organizers and especially to you, the visitors, for the amazing atmosphere we managed to create together! 🙌
