After noticing a strip of light peeking in my friend's bathroom, I took this self-portrait. The photo is slightly out of focus, but I like the colours and the softness.

Self-portraiture is one of my favourite ways to express myself. In the age of selfies and constantly having a phone in my face, taking a self-portrait on film sometimes feels like a shot in the dark.

You can only plan so much. How it will look, and then when you get the film developed, sometimes it surprises you. I like how freeing this is, how you can take a self-portrait when feeling a certain way and come back to it weeks later and reflect.

Self-portraits get a lot of crap online for not being creative and all. But I think it’s a documentation of your existence, and you have so much freedom to tell a story, to create a mood, or to just have fun with it and casually take a photo in a bathroom on a sunny day and remember that time in your life.

I am Natalia from , currently living in the capital city, . I took this picture about two years ago, in our old apartment. In this photo, my boyfriend and I are surrounded by our beloved .

Honestly, I don't take many self-portraits, mostly to finish the roll. But when I do, I try to capture the emotions I am feeling in the moment. I took this photo with my favourite medium format camera.

Camera: RZ 67, Kodak Portra 400 film.

My name is Diane, and I live in France. I took the first self-portrait with a Canon A1, a colour roll that I accidentally had to develop with black and white chemistry.

The second one was shot in a friend's garden last summer with my Rolleicord Vb, the camera that I use the most for now. I love self-portraiture with it.

The self-portrait is a simple way to represent me in a defined space and time, to take back control of my body and image. I've been shooting self-portraits since my adolescence. It is also a great way to satisfy my appetite for photography when I am alone.
