'Engineers have pioneered the 3D printing of nerve networks using “bioinks” packed with living neurons. This novel technique allows for the creation of 3D neural circuits that emulate the intricate connections seen in a living brain.

These bioprinted networks, bridging gray and white matter, exhibit spontaneous nerve activity and respond to stimuli. This advance opens avenues for deeper neurological research, from disease mechanisms to drug effects on the nervous system.'

When a robot needs to react to external stimulus, it is extremely resource-heavy — a problem for fitting intelligence into a small space.

Nastja Ambrožič & Celeste Sanja Smareglia: SymbioSanctum @ festival Svetlobna gverila

Nastja Ambrožič & Celeste Sanja Smareglia: SymbioSanctum @ Lighting Guerilla Festival

At the conclusion of the 17th Lighting Guerilla Festival, we would like to thank the organizers and everyone who contributed in one way or another to the production of our SymbioSanctum project.

Unfortunately, we had to withdraw our work even before the end of the Festival, because unfavourable and demanding conditions during the production, and the installation period, had a strong impact on the development and processing of the SCOBY material, which did not behave according to our expectations. So, the classic conundrum of contemporary investigative art working with living organisms. 😊

We would like to thank everyone who attended the opening and caught a glimpse of our to-be art project in the first days of the Festival and shared with us wonderful moments of the "glitchy" interaction between biological and technological. We would also like to sincerely apologize to those who did not manage to experience the installation in its final form, or were searching for it in vain at the Festival, and ask for your understanding.

We would like to thank the curators, producers, technicians and other support staff who helped us in the development of the project, especially Katerina Mirović and the team of the Lighting Guerilla Festival, for their invitation and for their invaluable suggestions and directions.

🦠What kind of role can our own microbiom play in a biosymbiotic space suit?

🧪Dorotea Dolinšek is developing her recent work on a residency at Ars Electronica BioLab.

In an interview with artist Dorotea Dolinšek, we discover the secrets of the microbiome and how our symbiotic relationship with microorganisms affects our well-being.

'Will Neuralink have access to the brain data of the people that they implant these devices in? What are they going to do with it? And how are they going to protect user privacy?'

The billionaire’s record has raised concerns over Neuralink’s ability to responsibly oversee the development of such an invasive device

'We can see that the future food is inspiring creatives around the world, and that artists and speculative designers are choosing different strategies to present their ideas.'

In 100 years, will there still be honey and coffee on Earth? Will Haribo Goldbears go extinct, will we still be able to make paprikás krumpli (paprika potatoes), if the climate change doesn’t slow down? What strategies do researchers of the future of food and diet use in order
