Farewell to David Hockney

Today, we remember one of the most influential artists of our time, David Hockney, who passed away at the age of 88. His extraordinary vision transformed the way we see color, space, movement, and everyday life, leaving an indelible mark on contemporary art.

At Visconti Fine Art, we are especially grateful to have collaborated with Hockney through the Art & Sport project for the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics. The work shown here, his celebrated Olympic poster, reflects the innovation and experimentation that defined his career.

As we honor his remarkable legacy, we are pleased to present this rare signed Olympic poster lithograph, a work that embodies both an important moment in art history and Hockney’s enduring creative spirit.

Vabljeni na odprtje razstave Marije Rus: Pokrajine spominjanja, v ponedeljek, 23. marca ob 19h.
Marija Rus je po študiju na ljubljanski akademiji in v poznejšem delu izmojstrila lasten slog abstraktnega slikarstva. Prepoznamo ga po odločnih, točno formuliranih potezah usklajenih barv in po intenzivno obdelanih, ustrezno oblikovanih monokromnih ploskvah. Povratek v domačo Belo krajino pa predstavlja drugačno, neobičajno gledanje na krajinske značilnosti in na njihovo upodabljanje. Oblike sicer ostajajo prepoznavne kakor v opisnem realizmu, barve spreminjajoče se kakor v žlahtnem impresionizmu, vendar motivi v njeni likovni govorici preraščajo v tipične znake, ki učinkujejo kot monumentalni simboli teh krajev. Ne celote in ne podrobnosti na podobah skalovja, brez, Kleka ali kalov ne predstavljajo plehkih, osladnih približkov čudovite pokrajine, ampak so v značilnem eruptivnem ustvarjalnem načinu izražene povsem osebne slikarkine vizije.
Marija Rus je akademska slikarka, živi in dela v Bojanji vasi in Ljubljani. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, and in her later work, Marija Rus perfected her own style of abstract painting. It can be recognised by its decisive, precisely formulated strokes of harmonised colours and by intensely worked, appropriately shaped monochrome surfaces. Her return to her native Bela krajina, however, represents a different, unusual way of looking at landscape characteristics and their depiction. The forms remain recognisable, as in descriptive realism, the colours changing as in refined impressionism; yet the motifs in her visual language develop into typical signs that function as monumental symbols of these places. Neither the whole nor the details in the images of the rocky terrain, the birches, Klek, or the ponds represent shallow, sentimental approximations of a wonderful landscape; rather, in her characteristic eruptive creative manner they express entirely personal visions of the painter.
Marija Rus is an academically trained painter; she lives and works in Bojanja vas and Ljubljana.
