Right in the middle of sculpture and painting there are these objects. What are they - sculptures or paintings? I’m not yet sure. Here a few new ideas ~ all work in progress ~ that have been on my mind recently. Discovering elements such as line, edges, monochromatic vs. multicoloured. Some of these paintings didn’t make it to my exhibition because I felt like I need a bit more time to explore them. They are certainly unveiling lots of new questions I’m excited to explore this summer!

A year ago, I was kindly invited to create artwork for my first solo exhibition at . Funny enough, the beautiful castle hill is part of my almost daily walk, and it already feels a bit like home, so I accepted without hesitation.

This was also the time when I was deeply immersed in exploring my three-dimensional Wall Sculptures, and there was no doubt in my mind about what I wanted to show: a sea of vibrantly coloured organic shapes flowing across a 30-metre wall.

But three months before the exhibition, I realised that, because Ljubljana Castle is a protected historical building, installing hanging mechanisms into the walls would be impossible. That’s when the panic set in and my creativity kicked into overdrive.

Everything had to be hung on gallery wires.

This news pushed me to explore how I could translate my organic shapes into large-scale ceramic objects. A wall of that size called for larger pieces, and in ceramics, larger also means heavier. Some of these pieces weigh up to 20 kilograms and took large portions of what I thought was a big kiln. For those who find that hard to picture, my largest pieces of tableware usually weigh around 2 kilograms, and even that once seemed big to me.

There is a lot of energy embedded in these works. The heaviness of lifting them, the back-breaking and nerve-wracking process of loading and unloading the kiln, and the many pieces that did not survive the journey. This exhibition has unveiled so many new questions about clay and ceramics that it feels as though I’ve opened an entirely new chapter of exploration and analysis - one that I’m most looking forward to.

Here’s a little glimpse of how I make my Breakfast Bowls ☺️ These cute bowls are always super fun to make and get completely transformed once I add a glaze on top.
