‘With Chagall, nothing is quite as we expect it's going to be,’ wrote Charles Sorlier, master printer, in 1974.
‘He has the rare ability to start each morning afresh. For him, each day is the first day, each flower the most brilliant, each fruit the sweetest… With every stone, lithography is born again… I have had the rare privilege of seeing Chagall at work, and it cannot be denied that, at times, it seems as if an angel has entered the workshop.’

Although he came to printmaking relatively late, by the end of his life the artist had produced more than 1,000 lithographs and over 500 etchings

The show traces woodblock artist Kawanabe Kyosai’s painting and printing processes. He depicted demons and dead bodies, lampooned court officials and founded the 1st manga magazine.

He only lived to be 58, but during his short lifetime, he left behind a profound legacy that is now coming into view.

It’s the last weekend for Agnes Vandermarcq’s show at Coin de Ciel Galerie, Paris. Agnes comes into our studio to print weekly and we’re honoured to have her as one of our regular printmakers.
