Introduction to Youth Friendship for Peace 2014:-

Youth Friendship for Peace 2014 (YFP 2014) comprises of two parts:

1) On 15th (Sat) & 16th (Sun) of November 2014, we will be holding a series of Youth Friendship Meetings where the joy of Buddhist practice will be shared.

2) On 20th (sat) & 21st (sun) of December 2014, we will be holding cultural performances at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall. The t

heme of the YFP 2014 is "Together in Mind, Together We Advance". This is based on SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's encouragement given to the Young Women Division (YWD) and Young Men Division (YMD) at his first official visit to Singapore in 1988. In the coming months, we look forward to active & joyous participation of our youth and their friends. And whilst the youth are busily preparing for YFP 2014, we will provide updates on this FB page and welcome all participants to post their training & learning journey with us! Following our YFP 2014, in their efforts to build a society where the reverence for all life shines and prevails in Singapore, our passionate youths from the Student Division have worked tirelessly after YFP to present the 10th Student Peace Lecture! Here's a message from the Student Division:

******
Greetings from the Student Division!

We would like to share with all of you an exciting event that is coming your way, and we are hoping that you can join us in our 10th Student Peace Lecture (SPL)!

The title of our SPL this year is "Poverty is for ME to change"!

We are filled with good fortune to be able to invite an external guest, Associate Professor John Donaldson to be our lecturer in this event.

What do you think are the root causes of poverty? What can we do to help? What are the structural barriers that prevents the eradication of poverty? If you want to find out more, you GOTTA come down to our SPL!

There will also be a Gandhi, King and Ikeda exhibition on that day! This is an exhibition whereby our mentor is placed alongside with Dr. Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King. what do they have in common? Please join us to find out!

DATE: 7 FEB SAT
TIME: Exhibition starts at 12.30pm; lecture - to be seated by 1.30pm
Venue: SSA HQ ICA

We will see you there!! Thank you!

“I found the whole performance very intriguing and interesting. It’s great to see so many people coming together for a common goal and I can only imagine the amount of commitment they put into this. It was simply mind-blowing and very well-coordinated. My favourite was the Ripples of Friendship by the Rainbow Chinese Orchestra and the Soka New Century Orchestra. It gave the show a fantastic opening, setting the tone and a benchmark for other items to match.”

“I think the YFP is really a very good platform for youths to gather. I can really feel the Soka spirit and I think it also reminds us of how hard our mentor fought for Gakkai.

We must inherit the same spirit! My favourite was the youth item, Hope without End, Valour without Limit for they really demonstrated team spirit. I have done something similar in my days as a youth and I know how difficult it is but the youth performers today were all very confident and demonstrated team itai-doshin. I was very touched by the theme song, Ignite, as well because it reminds us that true happiness is not the absence of problems. True happiness lies in our triumphs when we win in our struggles.”

James Lin (Left) and Chloe Jiang Qiu Zhen (Middle)
YMD New Friend and YWD Believer

We were invited by our friend Wan Lu and we felt that this is event is well organized and welcoming. It is also very interesting especially towards the ending of the show marked by the very well coordinated act.

It is challenging to gather people from different walks of life to commit their time and effort for such event. Unlike solo items, mass performance requires everyone to be united and we could felt that they were brought together by a common goal.

James: It is heartening to see people from different background and ability being involved in the chorus of joy, leaving no one behind.

Chloe: I personally liked the rendition by the Courageous Musician & Fife and Drum Corps as it provokes creative interpretation.

WD Member (Geylang West)

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire performance and it made me feel youthful and inspired. I could also feel their itai-doshin spirit and the hard work they have put in.

My 4 children performed in this show, two were in the FD item with one serving as a trainer, while the others were in the SD and YMD items.

The most powerful moment of the show came during the YMD human tower performance. My son shared with me the challenges they faced and how they challenge based on faith to achieve this incredible feat during the show.
