TLDR; when there’s a will, there’s a way. And sometimes you can have the best of both worlds!

I started learning to dance when I was 7 years old at a Singapore dance school. I also joined Chinese dance as extra curriculum in my primary school (high school). At that time, I was concurrently learning the violin (since age of 4). When I reached the age of 12, I had to pick either violin or dance, my heart said “dance” but my parents believed “violin”, so I gave up dancing altogether and got into School Of The Arts (SOTA) as a violinist.

Since then, it was years of hard work as I focused on violin while balancing academics in school, meaning there was no time for dance. After I graduated and started working as a professional violinist, I took up random dance classes with my adult money 😆. Then I met Cara after I signed up for a dance course. I remembered connecting to her teachings in the dance lessons, and thought that “Hey! I could dance again!”

Fast forward to 2-3 years later this year, we finally did our first collab, which was the NikeSKIMS Lisa dance cover that went viral here (linked). Old clients that I worked with and new ones discovered it and enquiries started rolling in. And 2 nights ago, I made my dancing violinist performance debut. It has been a while since I felt anxious performing, and even though I could’ve definitely done better, I felt accomplished and proud that I took the first step into something greater 💪🏻

Alright that’s all, thank you for coming to my TED talk!

Could I possibly be the first violinist to have performed with a dancing humanoid?? 🎻🤖

This might be one of the coolest collaborations I’ve ever done blending music performance, technology, and movement into one performance.

Once you hear it you cannot unhear it! Here’s another banger by “Risk it all” mashed with a beautiful classic by P. Ramlee “Getaran Jiwa”. I love how beautiful both their lyrics are, music really is a universal language ❤️

Please pardon my Bahasa Melayu pronunciation 🥲 and also I’m not a singer so please be kind 🤪

Special thanks to my in-house sound engineer for making me sound much better than I could 🥰
