Sequential layering induces and explores the space. The work examines how Chinese porcelain artist Wang Xiaolin transforms the lingering anxieties of the repetitive, rhythmic, laborious, and temporal into tangible forms as the era moves collectively through a decade of dread.
-
Wang explains: ‘Within this space, transformation no longer offers solace to the physical form. We are left suspended in the friction between historical erasure and its ideological reconstruction, where time has stood still. Volatile and erratic, the body drifts to the edge of perception, shelved within a rhythmic, unending cycle of repetition. After all, there is power in repetition.’

Rooted in Confucian and Taoist philosophies, this ongoing series explores moral transformation and self-cultivation, where Wang’s porcelain works are crafted using this nearly obsolete technique, the themes that surface in his creations stray far from the traditional motifs popular in 17th century Chinese porcelain-painting, reflecting more contemporary concerns.
