Ken Lu - Closing Time

It feels a little strange writing this.

The weekend has just passed, but somehow it already feels distant
like something we’re remembering from a while ago, even though it was only yesterday.

Thank you, Ken for trusting us with your work, and for letting us share not just the pieces, but a glimpse into how you think, make, and live with them.

And to .teahouse thank you for saying yes to this with us.
Foodstuff isn’t something we’re used to, and we’re not always the kind to sit quietly over tea, but this felt… right.

A slower way of experiencing the works, and a reminder of why they exist in the first place.

To everyone who came by -
thank you for spending time with the works, for trying the menu Jane so thoughtfully put together, and for bringing a piece of Ken’s practice home with you.

We hope they settle into your daily meals, your small routines, and add a little colour, quietly, over time.

This was the first of the series.
We’re looking forward to what comes next.

with Ken Lu

Spent some time with Ken in his studio last week.

He moves between pieces really quickly, stacking, unstacking,
picking things up and passing them over.

He talks about them very casually, many times with a wide smile on his face but you can tell he knows exactly what he’s doing.

Some sneaks of what’s coming,
the colourful polka dots,
a black and white series,
and a small batch of woodfired pieces.

Next week, you will be able to experience using them while trying our special menu of cold brew tea and snacks at .teahouse
, and available for purchase for you to bring home a little piece of his practise.

An Artisan Feature Series

We’re quietly beginning something new.

Where Things Live is shaped around a simple thought, that objects are not meant to sit still, but to be held, used, and lived with. Over time, they gather meaning through the rhythms of everyday life. A cup lifted each morning, a plate passed across the table, a moment shared and remembered.

For our first chapter, we are honoured to present works by

Rather than placing these pieces on pedestals, we wanted to return them to a space that feels closer to home. A place where they can be seen as they are meant to be. In use, in context, in quiet conversation with the people around them.

This is also why we’re grateful to be working alongside .teahouse

Their space carries a certain stillness and warmth, one that mirrors the way we hope these works will be experienced, slowly, intimately, and without rush.

Jane of .teahouse will be curating a small menu of tea and snacks created in dialogue with the wares themselves for the show. More on this soon.

Over the past few years, many of you joined us for our set workshops - breakfast sets, matcha sets, small tableware pieces made over a single session.

This year, we wanted to slow things down a little.

Our 5-session tableware course is a more in-depth introduction to wheelthrowing, where you’ll learn the foundations of working on the wheel - centering clay, pulling forms, trimming, and glazing your own wares.

Instead of making a single set, you’ll gradually build a small collection of everyday pieces shaped by your own hands.

All materials, firing, and your own tool set are included.

Yoshimura shoji -
where the window feels lighter, calmer, and more open.

Using equal lattice spacing, the screen reads as one continuous surface rather than separate panels.

With fewer visual interruptions, light moves freely and the space feels larger and airier;
subtle enough to sit comfortably across many interior styles and modern living.

Yesterday we had the joy of hosting Louis’ book launch alongside an Unhurried session at the studio.

It was a warm afternoon, with many friends, family, and members of the wider craft community showing up to celebrate an important milestone - not just for Louis as a craftsman and artist, but for small-scale makers like ourselves.

Louis’ book focuses on woodworking in small spaces, something deeply relatable to so many of us working within real, often constrained conditions. To see a Singaporean, craft-focused artisan publish a book that’s available worldwide honestly feels huge. It’s a reminder that quiet, dedicated practices can travel far, and that our stories and ways of working matter.

This was our first time hosting a two-part event, and while we were a little nervous going in, seeing people stay, listen, converse, and be present in the space made it all feel worth it.

For those who couldn’t make it, we still have a small number of books available and will be putting them up online later this coming week.

For our 8th Unhurried Couch Session, we’re spending a day with Louis Kwok (also known as KJUNG WOOD, and yes - also Liu Yang’s mentor hehe)

Louis is a fine furniture maker, whose practice has always lived within the home. From woodworking out of an apartment, to converting small bedrooms and HDB rooms into modest, efficient studios - and now continuing his practice from a room in his home in Taiwan.

This journey of working within limits eventually became his book, Woodworking in Small Spaces (From Living Room to Workshop).

This is a two-part gathering.

3.00–5.00pm

An open afternoon for the book launch - with book sales, signing, and a short introduction centred on the book.

7.00–9.00pm
(rsvp required)
An Unhurried evening of conversation with Louis, reflecting on his life and journey with woodworking - from Singapore to Taiwan, tracing labour, rhythm, and the quiet decisions behind a life in wood.
