[LAST LOOKS] PG Lee’s solo show, “GRAVITAS” at Supernormal Space. I could spend the whole afternoon looking at this work. The suspense and drama of sheer encounter and sound.

[Art and Design in the age of the Corona Virus] Hey man, Uncle’s still gotta go see stuff. Like the collab between Figment, Scene Shang, and Weekend Worker at 10 Pegu Road.

[LAST LOOKS] Pneuma, at Stamford Arts Centre, curated by Fajrina Razak and Nhawfal Juma’at, with Huijun Lu, Noor Iskandar, Dzaki Safaruan. A shifting, meditative space, nestled within the bustle of the Waterloo area. Visiting it at dusk is a very different experience. Carving up private spaces for spirituality and rumination about death and the beyond. Luminous, sublime, grounded in tactility and the sensed world.

Seelan, Oneal, Haylee, Ariff, during the take-down of Coda Culture’s first show in their new space. If there is one independent space in Singapore that embodies a sense of openness, it would be Coda.

Uncle got to meet new people in lokal arts scene, at today’s dialogue about how to really enable the freelancers who make up the gig economy in Singapore’s creative sector. Here are Chloe (movement artist, Urich Lau and Serena Pang (digital artists). So exciting!

[UNKER GO KAYPOH] checking out Yeo Shih Yin’s studio space. They were prepping for another show, but man, it was still a pleasure to ogle at stuff. And if anyone’s been to any artist studio’s, there’s always a sense of stuff-ness, just arranged in different permutations, revealing the logic of activity and organisation

[2019 PEOPLE/SHOWS UNCLE LIKES] “Glue Again” by Calvin Tay. First encountered his work at SPRMRKT, but am so Glad to see how the artist is pushing medium. It’s pretty much a sophomore exploratory solo show, but a quietly exciting one, pointing to worthwhile trajectories with his medium.

Looking at the silhouettes of interns navigating vinyl stickers behind the glass door resembles the most polite zombies trying to get into a gallery opening. Uncle is so happy that The Open Workshop begins before next week’s gang bang of events and activities for Singapore Art Week. This year’s programme by National Arts Council Singapore is going to be super extensive!

[2019 SHOW UNCLE LIKES] Uncle likes to listen to the young peoples! Hence, Uncle has grad-show fe**sh. Here is Unker on artist/curator’s tour of the 2019/2020 batch of Lasalle’s MA(Fine Arts) batch and their WIP show. One of the tightest college-art-shows Uncle has seen since 2012. LASALLE College of the Arts,

Not pedantic at all, and the dialogues were rich and layered, Uncle tempted to write a throughline essay about the show! Waxing lyrical about space explorations, notions of abstracted distance and mediated intimacy, and the negotiates stretch and pull of relation.
