Mark your calendars because Walking Shoes is back! Starting this Wednesday, 17 June, we are returning to our weekly walks from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM.

Come walk alongside Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs) from DADC (Diverse Abilities Dance Collective) for an hour of friendship, fitness, and meaningful inclusion. We aim for 1-on-1 pairings, so your presence truly makes a world of difference! 💛

⏰ Time: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM (Volunteers: please arrive 15 minutes early for a quick briefing!)

Help us close the digital divide, one step at a time. 👟

Imagine trying to navigate Singapore without being able to use maps, transport apps, or digital tools that most of us rely on every day. For many people with intellectual disabilities, these barriers can limit their independence and confidence in moving through the world.

Walking Shoes is a meaningful volunteer programme that pairs volunteers with participants to learn and practise digital navigation skills together. Through shared experiences, participants gain confidence in using everyday technology, while volunteers build genuine friendships and contribute to a more inclusive community.

This is more than learning how to get from one place to another. It is about empowering individuals to become active navigators of their own journeys and creating opportunities for connection, growth, and independence.

📅 Our first session begins on 17 June at 5:30 PM. Join us as we take the first steps together towards greater confidence, connection, and independence.

✨ STEP INTO THE ENCHANTED FOREST: A GROUNDBREAKING VR JOURNEY ✨

We are thrilled to share our recent collaboration with creative-tech studio Avventura in the immersive digital production, "Sang Kancil and the Enchanted Forest"! 🌿✨

This project bridges the gap between traditional storytelling and cutting-edge technology. Our amazing dancers from Maya Dance Theatre and Diverse Abilities Dance Collective (DADC) brought everyone’s favorite mouse-deer and her forest friends to life. Using advanced motion capture technology, their physical expressions, diverse cultures, and nuanced dance movements were recorded and seamlessly mapped onto beautiful digital avatars.

Concept choreographed and direction by our very own Kavitha Krishnan , this is a location-based Virtual Reality (VR) experience designed for adults and children (ages 6 and up). Come put on a wireless VR headset and step directly into a 30-minute magical adventure fueled by music, dance, and interactive quick-thinking!

We are stepping into a new chapter with Walking Shoes: Guide The Root, Grow The Connection.

In a world that moves fast and relies heavily on digital landscapes, true independence means having the confidence to navigate both the physical and the virtual spaces around us entirely on our own terms.

But no one should have to navigate the world alone. We are dreaming up a space where barriers are broken down, navigation becomes a shared language, and routine journeys turn into moments of mutual discovery.

"There exists always an area that is nebulous... the embodiment of one might seem to fit into a prescribed idea and storm against it all at the same time." 🎭✨

This is the heart of "Dvaita" a film we did some time back in collaboration with director/ film maker, Yahssir M and dance artist/ choreographer, Sufri Juwahir.

Produced by Millenia Motion Pictures, this film is a deep dive into the duality that Maya Dance Theatre embodies. It’s about the harmony found in the coexistence of opposites—the traditional and the contemporary, the body and the soul.
