Opening tomorrow at but also a Halloween Art Day about at the district.

The Tales of the Metamorphosis of the Unnamed is an exhibition that brings an overview to the breadth of Geraldine Lim’s budding practice, spanning from drawings to sculpture, as well as early experiments into an NFT artwork of animation and video. A series of recent drawings and paintings are on view, which continue to reflect her characteristic style and motifs of creatures that seem to form a discontinuous chain of enigmatic tales. Her narratives take inspiration from everyday life that innocuously weave together ordinary scenarios with the imagined, expressing a somewhat fantastical and uncanny world of her own. The Tales of the Metamorphosis of the Unnamed evokes a wide-eyed innocence that hints at something grotesque, yet paradoxically strives towards a sense of solace in her peculiar and fabled world.

Aki Hassan is a multi-disciplinary visual artist whose practice shifts between drawing, printed matter, sculpture and installation. They are invested in how forms, materialities and objects encounter one another in both concrete and metaphorical terms. Through carefully placed forms and object installations, Aki observes their interrelations and interdependence through a play in balance and proximity. The activities and vocabularies revealed in this process continues to fuel and ground Aki’s practice. They see their art practice as a process and tool to reflect on existing support systems (or lack thereof); to locate strength, shifts and imbalances in exchange.

Picture above is a glimpse of Aki Hassan showing their recent research and developments at their studio residency in Singapore Art Museum (ft. Californian artist who happened to be in town that day) - it is always a treat to see their sculptures in person!

Thank you for having us!

Clarice Ng () is a multidisciplinary artist who explores the intimacy that exists within the artist-audience relationship by producing interactive installations, books and ceramics. She is interested in facilitating experiences centred around vulnerability, solitude and human connection through manipulating text, sound, social and spatial elements into visual forms. Considering the audience as a central part of her practice, she prioritises participation, engagement and sees the audience as a co-author in fully realising her works.

Her latest work “Tender Observations of the Self” is now on view at - tomorrow 18 March is the last day to view the show, so don’t miss it!

Suspended in an aural space, not bound by physical preconceptions of the other – TOTS is an interactive sound piece that invites the listener to engage in a moment of attentiveness to their own bodies. In gazing inward to our instinctive physical sensations, expressions and reactions, we are able to nurture a deeper connection and understanding of our subconscious state of mind. Participants are invited to engage in conversation by listening to the pre-recorded audio on the cassette tape, to which they can record their own voice notes in response.

Happy International Women’s Day! In honor of today and in the spirit of , we want to share a few illustrations by Singapore-based artist Cassandra Sim (), experimental digital collages of brilliant female figures, past and present, that celebrate their accomplishments in history.

The works shown here, in order of appearance, are portraits of: Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer; Fatima al-Fihri, Arab scholar and founder of the oldest university in the world; Fe Del Mundo, a pediatrician who shaped the modern child healthcare system in Philippines; and Katie Bouman, who led the development of an algorithm for imaging black holes in 2019. Cassie hopes to revive this series starting this year, this time focusing on women from Southeast Asia now that she has come back home.

More about the artist: Cassie Sim is a gallery associate and illustrator who loves to tell stories, whether in the form of humorous comics or epic drawings. After graduating with a BFA in Illustration and History of Art in the United States, she worked in Boston as an arts writer and teacher for a while before returning home and joining a contemporary art gallery that focuses on elevating Southeast Asian artists.
