Casual Friday? Not when you’re looking at a never-before-seen photo of Martha Argerich bringing absolute boss energy right here at the 𝖤̶𝗌̶𝗉̶𝗅̶𝖺̶𝗇̶𝖺̶𝖽̶𝖾̶ Victoria Concert Hall! 😎

Celebrating 85 years of the ultimate high priestess of the piano. Still unmatched, still enigmatic, and effortlessly redefining what it means to be a rockstar.

We’re incredibly proud to be her exclusive home team here in Singapore. Happy 85th Birthday to the undisputed GOAT! 👑💕

Flashback to pianist Anna Geniushene meeting Maestro Hans Graf backstage after her Singapore debut recital with us in 2023.

As Maestro Graf conducts his final concert tonight as Music Director of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, we wanted to share a small glimpse of the warmth, generosity, and genuine love for music that we have come to know through the years.

Maestro and Mrs Graf have attended many Altenburg Arts concerts as ticket-buying patrons. In a profession where musicians often spend entire weeks immersed in rehearsals and performances, it is rare to see an artist of his stature voluntarily turning up to hear other musicians in concert — especially on work nights. Where many might understandably have wanted rest and quiet, Maestro Graf always seemed eager to hear more music, and to support artists he respected.

That, to us, says everything about the depth of his love for this art form.

We remain deeply grateful for his support of our series over the years, and for the encouragement he has quietly extended to so many musicians and presenters in Singapore.

Though this chapter with the SSO comes to a close, we very much hope this is not goodbye. We hope to continue seeing Maestro Graf in Singapore in the years ahead — whether as a visitor, on stage, or in our audience.

A spotlight today on extraordinary pianist and mother Anna Geniushene, who returns to Singapore next month with another solo recital programme devoted entirely to Chopin and Brahms.

Remarkably, the 2022 Cliburn Silver Medallist was seven months pregnant with her second child when she competed, while her first child, then just 18 months old, remained at home in Lithuania with her husband Lukas Geniušas — himself a Tchaikovsky Competition silver medallist.

Now, Anna has just welcomed her third child fewer than six months ago. Will she be coming to Singapore with her newborn this time?

Anna said confidently during the Cliburn that she had continued performing throughout her first pregnancy — and saw no reason her second should be any different. Still, life in a household with two concert pianists and small children is no simple proposition. Beyond differing interpretations of repertoire, one practical question always remains: “Who will practice, and who will take care of the baby?”

Happy Mother’s Day 🌹 to Anna and mothers everywhere — whose sacrifices make so much possible.

Don’t miss Anna Geniushene’s recital on Sunday, 14 June at Victoria Concert Hall. Tickets from $30 via SISTIC, with group and subscriber discounts of up to 30%. Visit linktr.ee/altenburgarts for tickets.

Full circle. Eric Lu made his Singapore and debut in 2019 with Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, when our founder worked with the SSO to bring him in as a substitute for an indisposed Martha Argerich .

Three solo recitals and one duo recital with later, all for , he has also added the Chopin Competition Gold to his Leeds Gold — and now returns to Singapore to perform the very same concerto with the SSO tonight and tomorrow.

Still poetic, still profound, and still making every concert exceptional ✨ Bravo, Eric! 👏🏻👏🏻
