What a privilege it is to see my work “Pont Alexandre III, Paris, 2023” grace the walls of the French Ambassador’s residence in Singapore, alongside a print of “Parc Monceau, 2018”. A relic from the “Two Rivers” exhibition on Anderson Bridge and at VivoCity, celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations between France and Singapore, this light box* is a luminous testament to the strong friendship between our two countries.

Thank you Your Excellency Stephen Marchisio for the place you have given to my work in your home.

My gratitude goes equally to my gallerist Marie-Pierre Mol of Intersections Gallery and the team of French Embassy in Singapore - Ambassade de France à Singapour for having organised a special evening of “Intersecting Views”, featuring French and Singaporean artists at the French Residence.

Thank you all not only for the strong support you have extended to my projects, but also for the special place reserved for artists, the arts and culture in France.

With Mona Choo and Helene Le Chatelier, artists represented by Intersections Gallery.

*The light box was created using HP Latex 3-layer printing. Thank you HP Graphic Arts for your kind support of the "Two Rivers" exhibition!

On November 13, “Bhutan: Portrait of a Kingdom,” initiated by Her Majesty the Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, was launched at the Royal Palace in Thimphu.

It was a privilege to celebrate alongside Their Majesties, members of the Royal Family, and dignitaries, sharing the stage with esteemed photographers Gueorgui Pinkhassov, Michael Yamash*ta, Chang Chien-Chi, Vincent Munier, Stéphan Gladieu, and Karma T Dorji.

The book also includes exclusive photographs by His Majesty His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Steve McCurry, Raghu Rai Center For Photography, Olivia Arthur and French monk Matthieu Ricard, along with texts by Pico Iyer and Kinley Dorji.

The exhibition featured our images printed with three-layer technology by HP Graphic Arts on lightboxes, illuminating the magical setting of the Palace Grounds.

Her Majesty highlighted the significance of the event, coinciding with the 70th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King, and described the book as a heartfelt offering created with love, capturing the country through both the lens and the heart. Dasho Thinlay Norbu, who led the project, thanked the participating photographers for helping us see Bhutan with fresh eyes, while celebrating its familiar beauty.

It was a memorable night—truly "the book launch to end all book launches!" to quote Michael Mike Yamash*ta

I also had the opportunity to present my “Two Rivers” project to Their Majesties. As a Singaporean living in Paris, I feel fortunate to call Singapore "my home" and France "my adoptive home." Now, Bhutan has become "my adopted home." Although I wasn’t born here and don’t reside here, it holds a special place in my heart, just as dear to me as my own country.

Special thanks to my friends who flew in from Singapore and Paris to attend the launch.

The English edition of “Bhutan: Portrait of a Kingdom” is now available internationally through online retailers and select bookstores, while the French edition will launch in Paris this December.

I am truly honoured to have had the opportunity to celebrate the National Day of France in Singapore, as well as the National Day of Singapore in France. Both countries are not only very dear to me, they are also greatly inspiring to me: two nations with vastly different histories, but shared progressive futures.

Welcome Mr. Teo Chee Hean, Senior Advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office, back to Paris! And thank you Singapore Embassy in Paris / Ambassade de Singapour à Paris and Singapore Ambassador HE Foo Teow Lee for the invitation.

It took many hands and hearts to bring the “Two Rivers” dream to life. Over 73 days — from April 23 to July 4, 2025 — people from all walks of life came to see it: young and old, locals and tourists, everyday visitors and official ones.

To mark the close of this unforgettable adventure, here’s a short video offering a glimpse of the project from start to finish — a tribute to everyone who built it, visited it, and supported it from the very beginning.

Thank you for being a part of this. And to those who aren’t in the video — your contributions are not forgotten. Your presence is forever etched in my heart. ❤️

It's indeed a pleasure and privilege to spend the National Day of my adoptive country in my birth country especially in this special year when the two countries are celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations and reaffirming their cooperation on so many fronts. Thank you French Embassy in Singapore - Ambassade de France à Singapour for the invitation and Happy Bastille Day to all my French friends!

The National Library Singapore was where I held my first-ever photo exhibition back in 2007 — a small series on the alley cats near my office in Chinatown.

Coming back to give a talk felt like coming full circle. I shared my earliest photos right up to my latest "Two Rivers" series, and a preview of a new project, as well as Abbas' work and influence on my own.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in spite of the rain. It was really wonderful seeing so many familiar faces too! I was very honoured to have His Excellency Tan York Chor, former Ambassador of Singapore to France, in the audience. He was also Guest of Honour at my first Paris exhibition, "Light From Within", in 2012.

So many full circles. I'm deeply grateful to everyone who has accompanied me on my journey this far.

The “Two Rivers” exhibition VivoCity Singapore runs till this Friday, July 4.

I'm pleased to share that in conjunction with my “Two Rivers” exhibition now on at VivoCity Singapore, the National Library Singapore is currently displaying a selection of books that I’ve curated in collaboration with their team. These titles reflect the writers, poets, artists, and photographers – from both France and Singapore – whom I find inspiring and have themselves, been inspired by rivers.

The display also includes my English translation of the Preface and three poems by Victor Hugo, from his collection “The Contemplations”, which Hugo himself described as “An Autobiography of a Soul”. Although he wrote from his own experience, it is also a mirror in which many souls can recognise themselves. His belief in life as a shared destiny, is something I try to express through my images. As the Library does not have a copy of the book, I am hoping that these translations will offer you a glimpse of his genius, and allow you to experience the joy and illumination I felt when I first read them.

I’ll be giving a talk about my artistic journey on 28 June 2025 at 3 PM, at the Launch Space (Level 7) of the National Library Singapore as part of their "Art X Stacks" Programme. If you’re free, it would be lovely to see you there.

The “Two Rivers” exhibition VivoCity Singapore runs till July 4.

Thank you, M. l’ambassadeur Stephen Marchisio and the team at the French Embassy in Singapore - Ambassade de France à Singapour for your warm welcome at the Residence of France following President Emmanuel Macron’s State visit to Singapore. I am honoured to have had opportunity to share my work with the First Couple together with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his wife, and our respective Ministers of Culture Ms. Rachida Dati and Mr. David Neo 梁振伟. That was indeed a night to remember!

Pictured here (above, right) with Mr Low Hon Mun, Acting Director General of HQ Europe Directorate; (below, from left) with Ms Lynette Pang, Deputy CEO of National Arts Council Singapore, Ms Hwang Yu-Ning, CEO of NParks and Mr François Lusteau, Cultural Attaché of the French Embassy.

Please swipe to watch an extract of the Ambassador’s speech.

For those who missed the “Two Rivers” exhibition on Anderson Bridge, the same display has been moved closer to the sea VivoCity Singapore and will stay up until July 4. Young artists are invited to submit their interpretation of the theme “My Two Rivers” in a competition to win cash prizes and an opportunity to exhibit their work in Paris.

I will also be giving an artist talk at National Library Board, Singapore on June 28 at 3pm. Sign up here: https://lu.ma/0bak1tfj
