Cast reveal of 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚! 🔥

Inspired by the Southeast Asian folklore of the Penanggalan, 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚 is part of Chong Tze Chien’s ongoing experimentation of using actor’s body and movement to affect the puppetry.

This work-in-progress showcase comprises two parts – a presentation of the story and a dialogue session between the creatives and audience after the presentation. Come and say hi to them after the show! 👋

👀 A massive tarp appeared in the rehearsal room one day! Here’s a sneak peek of what is going on in 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚.

In the upcoming W.I.P showcase, Chong Tze Chien takes a deep dive in experimentation of puppetry, actors’ movements, and objects to create a visual language that is influenced by sound, weight, texture, and more. These movements and design serve as the starting point that will influence his direction and the eventual outcome of the presentation.

The showcase comprises two parts – a presentation of the story and a dialogue session between the creatives and audience after the presentation. Come and join us, limited seats only! 🔥

We're halfway through 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙐𝙥! ✨

Last week, 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙐𝙥! was performed to the general public and residents of Jalan Kukoh and Cassia Crescent. They also had the chance to try their hands on the Traditional Hand Puppets and pick up a few tricks! It’s safe to say that everyone had a great time. 💚

𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙐𝙥! is an interactive Traditional Hand Puppetry performance open to all ages and perfect for inter-generational interactions. Our last show is happening on:

Meet the performing team of 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙐𝙥! 🔥✨

When asked what motivated Tan Beng Tian, co-founder of The Finger Players and Director of Hands Up!, to create the show, she shared that there are two reasons:

Firstly, Myra Loke, Executive Director of TFP, expressed that “she has the responsibility to carry on this so-called dying art form” and that “it is important for us to bring in young bloods to come and learn”. The second reason was young puppeteers Auderia Tan and Angelina Chandra (Angel) expressing keen interest to go in-depth into the art form.

With that, Beng Tian came to a conclusion, “When Myra says, ‘We are going to do Hands Up!, are you willing to come on board?’ I say, of course!”

Hands Up! will be performed at a few community spaces, do come by and join us in celebrating Traditional Chinese Hand Puppetry. Everyone, hands up! 🙌
