Sometimes, creativity begins simply by looking, wondering and asking, “What could this become?

In this lesson, children explored creativity through observation and imagination.

“What do you see?”
“Can you find a shape?”
“Let the picture speak to you.”

Randomly, each child discovered their own creature, transforming the shapes they saw into imaginative animals.

The activity encourages children to look beyond what is obvious, trust their imagination and create without fear of being wrong. There is no single correct answer—the same lines can inspire completely different ideas in every child.

Inspired by David Hockney’s Swimming Pools

The children explored David Hockney’s iconic swimming pool paintings, focusing on his use of colour, movement and perspective. They created their own 3D swimming pools, adding details such as rippling water, splashes and reflections to bring their artworks to life. Each child then personalised their pool by imagining and adding their own activities, making every artwork unique and playful.
