Toasting the National Day weekend with my current favourite exhibition at : Mohammad Din Mohammad’s showcase as part of Something New Must Turn Up.

An artist, a silat master, a healer, and a Southeast Asian artefact collector, Din Mohammad heavily incorporated his spirituality and mystic beliefs stemmed in Sufism into his works and life. I was marvelled at the vast collection of artefacts displayed, which was collected over the years by the artist, exhibited as how I’d imagine he’d displayed it in the walls and cabinets of his home.

The full exhibition dive deep into the practice of 6 post-independence Singaporean artists, marking a new narrative of Singapore modern art away from the brand of ‘Nanyang Art’ set by their predecessors.
