This is not your ordinary livebearer.
Xenotoca doadrioi is officially classified as CRITICALLY ENDANGERED (CR) in the wild.
Native to a very restricted area of Jalisco, Mexico, this species has suffered major declines from habitat degradation, water loss, pollution and competition from introduced species. Some of its historical populations have already disappeared.
And now, we have captive-bred specimens available.
For serious Goodeid keepers and collectors, this is something very different from keeping another common livebearer.
A small fish with a big conservation story — and an opportunity to keep and breed a species that is critically endangered in its natural habitat.
