Most of us know what we are (by the things we do), but not many know who we are (by the things we are commissioned to do).

Mother Theresa once said : "We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is a friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers and grass grow in silence, see the stars, the moon and the sun move in silence....we need silence in order to touch souls." Most of us will anwser : we cannot afford to lose time doing nothing.

Another common lament : "I need to clear my leave, I don't know what to do with so much time." Letting go of the things we do is like losing our identity. Guilt often coupled with a sense of lost, assuming we are wasting our life without any visible works. Time has become our greatest enemy besides fears and disbeliefs. Our identity is often shaped by the time we have in hand. Imagine if our lifespan were to go up to 300 years, I bet most of our goals and dreams will be geared differently from a survival and comfort mode to one that is more holy and humane. When we pray 'on earth as in heaven', I often wonder how we can do it differently on earth than in heaven when earth is bounded by time, and heaven eternity is timeless. Thankfully the lives of Moses and Joshua, David and Solomon are good reminders. God's mission sometimes need more than 1 generation to fulfil. God is timeless, so are our identity in Him.

Therefore self-identity is not a negative pursuit, which is often associated with promotion of egotism or elitism. In fact self-identity is important for us to align ourselves to the creativity and uniquenss that God has intentionally put in each of us, so we can be released to do our part in the society.
