Amirthini Sivaharan’s Nadhi – The Flow of Life at the second night of Darshana 2026 was a deeply evocative and immersive experience that lingered long after the performance concluded. With remarkable sensitivity, she wove together the fading story of the Vaiyai river and the evolving voice of the Puthumai Pen, creating a narrative that was both poetic and politically resonant.

Her movement vocabulary was fluid yet powerful, embodying the river’s vitality, memory, and eventual stillness with striking clarity. There was an emotional honesty in her abhinaya that drew the audience inward, allowing us to witness not just a river’s decline, but a shared human condition.

A particularly striking moment was the lesser-known tale of Gundodharan, who devoured the waters of the Vaiyai in an attempt to quench an unending hunger and thirst. Brought to life with vivid theatricality, this episode introduced a compelling dramatic layer, allowing moments of Hasya rasa to surface within the poignancy of the narrative, offering the audience a brief yet meaningful emotional contrast.

The live musical ensemble elevated the work beautifully. Sarvesh Karthick’s nuanced score, Roshini’s soulful vocals, and Kavitha Jeyaraman’s veena created a rich and textured soundscape that supported the choreography with depth and sensitivity.

Nadhi stood out as a thoughtful and compelling work one that seamlessly bridged Sangam poetry with contemporary reflection, leaving the audience in quiet contemplation of both nature and self.

Thank you again Amirthini for your wonderful performance and your efforts in creating an original work for Darshana 2026

Jyotika Joshi’s Unbridled – Where Movement Meets Liberation marked a compelling curtain-raiser for Darshana 2026, setting a powerful tone for the series ahead. With remarkable command over technique and an arresting stage presence, she brought alive the inner world of the Baawari - a soul suspended between longing and realisation.

Her choreography seamlessly wove intricate Kathak vocabulary with evocative storytelling, allowing moments of stillness and intensity to breathe alongside rhythmic dynamism. The transition from outward search to inward awakening was portrayed with striking clarity and emotional depth, drawing the audience into an intimate and immersive experience.

What lingered most was her ability to embody liberation not as an abstract idea, but as a lived, visceral journey, one that unfolded with grace, strength, and quiet conviction. Kudos to the team if musicians who have recorded the enchanting and captivating rendition for Unbrideld.

Thank you once again Jyotika Joshi for the nuanced and memorable opening to Darshana 2026.

Parvathy Varma – Day 03
Yuva Mahotsav 2025

Date: 06 August 2025
Venue: AVAI at Apsaras Arts
Presented by: Apsaras Dance Company under the Darshana – Intimate Dance Series

The closing night of Yuva Mahotsav 2025 concluded on a luminous note with a powerful Odissi solo performance by Parvathy Varma, a disciple of Guru Chitra Shankar of Chitrakala Arts, Singapore. With over 14 years of training and a poised presence, Parvathy delivered a recital that was both meditative and dynamic.

Titled “Divyānganā – The Celestial Woman”, the performance explored the divine feminine through five carefully selected pieces. Beginning with Maanikya Veena, Parvathy invoked Goddess Saraswathi with refined grace. The transition into Ardhanareeswara highlighted her ability to fluidly shift between masculine and feminine energies, executed with clarity and control.

The Shankarabharanam Pallavi showcased her mastery of rhythm and movement, while Keshi Mathana, drawn from Jayadeva’s Gita Govinda, was performed with emotional vulnerability and subtle abhinaya. The recital concluded with Moksha—a fitting finale that encapsulated liberation and transcendence, leaving the audience in a state of quiet awe.

Her closing night performance was a perfect culmination of Yuva Mahotsav 2025—an evening that celebrated not just technical brilliance, but also introspection, maturity, and feminine strength through the lens of Odissi.

We look forward return back in 2026 with another array of talented artists. Stay connected for more updates.

The recital opened with Sharada Kauthvam, an invocation to the goddess of wisdom, which Meenakshi performed with serenity and lyrical beauty. She followed with the Bhairavi Varnam “Mohamana”, where her nuanced abhinaya and command over rhythmic structures came to the forefront. Her portrayal of the longing nayika was mature, expressive, and emotionally resonant.

Yuva Mahotsav 2025

Venue: Avai @ Apsaras Arts
Presented by Apsaras Dance Company under the Darshana – Intimate Dance Series

Yuva Mahotsav 2025 opened on a deeply evocative and spiritually elevating note with Diya Subramanian as the featured curtain-raiser. A disciple of Sri P.N. Vikas at the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS), Diya delivered a compelling solo Bharatanatyam recital that set a high artistic benchmark for the festival.

The evening began with “Rangapura Vihara” in Brindavana Saranga, a composition by Muthuswami Diksh*tar. Diya’s portrayal of Lord Ranganatha was both reverent and fluid, drawing the audience into the space of bhakti bhava (devotional sentiment) with poised movements and a sense of meditative grace.

She then transitioned into the evening’s centerpiece, the Charukesi Varnam “Innum En Manam Ariyadavar Pola Irundidal Nyayama”, a deeply emotive composition by violin maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. Here, Diya shone in both nritta and abhinaya, portraying the nayika’s longing and gentle reproach towards Lord Krishna. The jathis were executed with precision and confident command, while her expressive eyes conveyed the subtle shades of romance, frustration, and divine yearning.

In the Javali set in Raga Kapi, Diya brought out the mischievous and vulnerable nature of the heroine who suspects her beloved’s attention is being swayed elsewhere. Her ability to shift between moods with finesse captured the audience’s attention and highlighted her growing maturity as a solo performer.

The recital concluded with a vibrant Thillana in Revathi, composed by Lalgudi Jayaraman. Set in misra chapu tala, the piece showcased her agility and rhythmic vitality, ending the evening on a joyous and energetic note.

What stood out throughout the recital was Diya’s balanced approach to both technique and expression. She danced with clarity, confidence, and conviction, demonstrating not just years of training, but also a sincere emotional investment in the pieces she presented.

As the curtain raiser for Yuva Mahotsav 2025, Diya Subramanian set a contemplative and high-spirited tone, reminding us that the future of classical Indian dance in Singapore is in excellent hands.
