On 9 June, Odyssey Dance Theatre Ltd marked its 27th anniversary.

📢 𝗡𝗘𝗧𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦 & 𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗦

Dr Danny Tan recently completed a meaningful visit to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, filled with gratitude, learning and valuable exchanges with long standing partners and collaborators. The trip provided an opportunity to experience the latest developments within the arts sector while strengthening relationships with institutions and professionals who continue to support artistic growth and collaboration.

During the visit, Dr Danny met partners from various organisations and institutions, observed dance school summer examinations, attended the full dress rehearsal of a new company production, and participated in production discussions involving Victoria Theatre Singapore, ODT Production & Creatives, and regional collaborators. He also formed new partnership with the University of Economics and Finance Vietnam, further strengthening existing partnerships and exploring future possibilities for collaboration.

The visit was a fulfilling experience marked by meaningful conversations, shared aspirations and renewed connections. Through listening, observing and engaging with artists, educators and cultural leaders, we continue to deepen our international networks and alliances while creating opportunities for artistic exchange, collaboration and growth across the region.

🌏 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘

Dr Danny Tan extends his appreciation to Acting Sub Lt. Saksom Panthong, a prominent official dancer and performing artist from the Office of Performing Arts, Fine Arts Department, under Thailand’s Ministry of Culture, for the generous tour of the National Theatre in Bangkok.

It was also Dr Danny’s privilege to witness the ceremony commemorating Her Majesty Queen Suthida’s birthday, while appreciating the beauty of Thai traditional dance and the newly renovated National Theatre. This meaningful encounter offered valuable insight into Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, artistic traditions and performing arts landscape.

Through our international efforts, we continue to value exchanges that deepen cultural understanding, strengthen artistic friendships and open new possibilities for meaningful connections across the performing arts community.

“12 Seasons” brings together an exceptional group of distinguished artists from Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Vietnam, each contributing a lifetime of artistic achievement, knowledge and experience to this landmark production. As artists, educators, choreographers, mentors and cultural leaders, they have shaped the performing arts landscape across Asia and beyond through their dedication, creativity and leadership.

For Dr Danny Tan, this gathering represents decades of friendship, collaboration and shared artistic journeys. His friendship with Ms Lin Ya Wen spans more than 30 years. He welcomed Mr Park Ho Bin to Singapore through previous artistic exchanges in 2002 and 2003, and brought Mr Shin Yong Gu to Singapore twice under DanzINC Festival. Ms Phan Thi Thuc Linh has also been a valued artistic partner through years of regional engagement and cultural exchange. These relationships have been built through mutual trust, respect and a shared commitment to the advancement of the arts.

All five lead artists are above the age of 50, bringing with them rich lived experiences, memories, aspirations and artistic wisdom. Together with ODT Music Ensemble and 25 homegrown elderly performers, “12 Seasons” celebrates friendship, multicultural appreciation and the power of the performing arts to connect people across generations and cultures.

We are pleased to share another glimpse into the research journey for Dr Danny Tan’s world premiere, “12 Seasons”, shaped through movement, space, time and light.

In the studio, the artists observed and appreciated each other’s presence through quietness, calmness, sunlight and soft music. These elements came together naturally, creating a moment of connection between two veteran bodies in an intimate artistic exchange.

For “12 Seasons”, research in Taiwan reflects a meaningful exploration of life, art and purpose, shaped through exchanges between Dr Danny Tan and Ms Lin Ya-Wen. Rooted in questions of meaning after 50, this research journey draws from shared reflections on movement, nature, age and the human spirit, informing the deeper artistic landscape of the production.

Through a common belief in the relationship between arts and wellness, this process reaches beyond technique into a search for authenticity, healing and presence. Encounters with nature, contemplative practice and dialogue have contributed to a body of research that informs “12 Seasons” as an evolving artistic work grounded in lived experience.

We are pleased to share a heartwarming encounter with Choi Won Seok and Woo Duck Jea from South Korea, who performed in Dr Danny Tan’s co work, “Synesthesia”, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in 2005.

At that time, they were fresh graduates performing overseas for the first time, staying in Singapore for a month and creating meaningful memories through dance. Their journey in “Synesthesia” is also captured in the coffee table book at https://online.fliphtml5.com/rjoqf/hykz/ Today, they have each grown into successful entrepreneurs, with one as a studio owner and the other as a coffee house boss, while continuing their personal journeys with families of their own.
