Welcome to Singapore!
Singapore may be known to the world as a fast-paced business hub, but to the people who call it home, it is just as much a food island β built on flavours, rituals, and memories passed through generations. πΈπ¬
Few breakfasts feel more Singaporean than kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and kopi. Crisp toasted bread spread with fragrant kaya and thick slices of butter melting into the warmth. Two half-boiled eggs, silky and rich, seasoned simply with dark soy sauce and white pepper. And on the side, kopi served in the familiar vintage porcelain cup with its iconic green floral print β the kind found in old kopitiams, where mornings begin with comfort and conversation.
This week, our young artists paid homage to this humble yet iconic breakfast by painting it on old newspapers β a meaningful pairing of two everyday traditions that are slowly fading into the past: printed news and old-school breakfast culture.
At Arrt.inc, we try to make art relatable. When children create from things they know and experience in their everyday lives, learning feels natural and personal. Through observing these familiar breakfast staples, they practised important skills like observational drawing, colour study, texture-building, and painting techniques β while also connecting with the culture and stories behind them.
Because sometimes culture is found in the simplest rituals β a cup of kopi, a piece of toast, and eggs shared at the start of the day. βππ₯
