This month we honour Georg Baselitz (1938–30th April, 2026) Rest in Peace, Sir.

Georg Baselitz was a pioneering German painter, sculptor, and printmaker known for his expressive Neo-expressionist style and, most notably, for painting subjects upside down.

He redefined postwar art by focusing on raw, figurative work that explored German identity and historical trauma. By stripping figures of their traditional meaning through inversion, he forced viewers to engage with the pure texture and physical power of his brushwork.
