From the past to the present, the Fringe continues to delve into stories that still resonate strongly today.

Ayer Hitam: A Black History of Singapore by Sharon Frese, Ng Yi-Sheng and Irfan Kasban commemorates the black men and women—enslaved, indentured and expatriate—who crossed the multiple oceans from Africa to Singapore, while I Am Seaweed by Mm and Something Happens Here (MASHH)/ Cheryl Ho & Rachel Lee explored hustle culture and resilience in an often overwhelming world.

The platforms for independent fringe artists in Singapore has been rapidly shrinking, with the Fringe being one of the last few remaining platforms that champions and supports the development of young and emerging arists.

The Fringe always seeks to lift the voices of the less represented.

From the hidden narratives in the Singapore story in ANGKAT: A Definitive, Alternative, Reclaimed Narrative of a Native by Nabilah Said & Noor Effendy Ibrahim, and a grandson's grappling of his family's history through the India-Pakistan Partition in Eclipse by The Necessary Stage, the Fringe provides a platform for less known stories to be shared.

We enjoyed the robust discussions at the panel discussion Is This Too Loud? Representation in Theatre at Fringe 2026.

The topic certainly struck a chord with many, and we were proud to lift the voices of these artists from diverse communities and grapple with this difficult but important theme.

Keeping Fringe events like this free and our ticketed events one of the most affordable in town is important to us, despite no longer having a title donor. Accessibility in terms of ticket prices is key, but so is ensuring our arts workers get a fair remuneration.

The Fringe has always been dedicated to raising the voices of independent artists.

From@sofiebuligis' debut in Celup performing her original script, to 's sonic theatrical production Beside Ourselves, we have championed over 1,000 Singaporean artists and groups over the Fringe's 22 years' history.

As more fringe spaces and platforms are closing, the support for young, emerging and independent artists is more urgent than ever.

We've been so moved by your shares and messages of support!

As you may know, though we didn't manage to hit our initial goal of $80,000, we did raise enough funds to keep Fringe 2027 going 💪

While the work to prepare for Fringe 2027 on a modest but impactful scale carries on, we will continue our fundraising for the next few months to see if we can raise enough to cover the shortfall.
