We are honoured to be invited by Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao to present Tempest & Tranquility as part of Lianhe Zaobao’s inaugural Singapore Cultural Festival in Shanghai and Beijing, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

This tour marks a meaningful new chapter for Siong Leng. Through the dialogue between Nanyin, Indian music and dance, we hope to share how traditions have taken root and evolved within Singapore’s multicultural landscape.

We are deeply grateful for this opportunity to showcase our work abroad and to share the cultures, perspectives and stories that have shaped us as a Singapore arts company. We look forward to connecting with audiences in China and continuing this cultural exchange through music.

We are deeply honoured and grateful to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Ms Jane Ittogi for gracing the premiere of In Relation. It was our privilege to share our work, and such a meaningful milestone in Siong Leng’s journey, with them.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Ms Teoh Zsin Woon, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth - MCCY ; His Excellency Mr Cao Zhongming, Ambassador of the 中国驻新加坡大使馆 Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Singapore ; Mr Joakim Ladeborn, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Singapore; as well as our Embassy representatives, our guests from the National Arts Council Singapore , industry partners, donors and supporters who joined us that evening.

For 85 years, Siong Leng has carried the sounds of Nanyin across generations. We honour the traditions entrusted to us while continuing to explore how this ancient art form can speak to audiences today.

As the opening production of Siong Leng’s 85th anniversary celebrations, "In Relation" begins a year of reflection, connection and new possibilities. Rooted in Nanyin, "In Relation" invites us to listen beyond words and discover the connections between sound and silence, past and present, tradition and transformation.

This milestone belongs not only to Siong Leng, but to every artist, mentor, supporter and audience member who has walked alongside us.

Looking back on our 2024 collaboration with Emergency Stairs 避難階段, Artistic Director Liu Xiaoyi on "The Silence of All Things" trilogy.

The first instalment, "Thus Have I Heard", directed by Liu Xiao Yi, was presented at the Esplanade Theatre Studio in Singapore, featuring dance maestro Dance Maestro💃

This marked the beginning of our collaborative journey. Stay tuned for the second and third instalments of the trilogy.

A Throwback to Longing

A cross-cultural production in 2023 that brought together the poetic vocal traditions of Nanyin and Malay Asli. Through music, lyrics, and shared expression, this collaboration celebrated heritage while opening new possibilities for creative dialogue.
