As the radiant full moon graced the sky this Vesak Day, we also mark the joyous commencement of Vasantha Utsavam!
This confluence of events creates a perfect moment to immerse ourselves in the beautiful raga
As Poornachandrika denotes full moon and known for its bright and auspicious charater, here we share a recording from the Vasantha Utsavam at Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Singapore, on 12 June 2017. Here, Mrs. R. Banumathy, daughter and disciple of Dr. S. Ramanathan, performs a composition by her father. This particular piece is an obeisance to Dr. S. Ramanathan’s guru, the legendary Tiger Varadachariar, set in the raga Poornachandrika.

Pranav Swaminathan will be perfoming at Albany, NY tomorrow, May 9th 2026 at the Kalai Manjari 2026 of .usa . This is probably the first time, he will be performing in USA, since he passed out of his National Service in Singapore.

These photos and a snippet are from his Mridangam Arangetram concert, to serve as an introduction to this talented lad from Singapore.

Pranav has had the unique blessings of Sri. Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani for his Mridangam Arangetram at the Music Academy, Chennai on 8th July, 2018, as Mani sir himself was the Guest oh Honour, which he rarely accepts. Pranav had ably accompanied Sri Sikkil Gurucharan in that concert. Sri V.Sanjeev & Sri N. Guruprasad provided support on the Violin & Ghatam, respectively.

Pranav is under the tutelage of Sri.V.Raghuraman at alapana, Singapore. He started his Mridangam journey from the age of 6. Post Arangetram, Pranav was fortunate to have received further training under Sri. Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani.

His quick grasp of tempo, Gati & Idam has earned appreciation from none other than Mani sir.

Pranav has made significant steps by winning prizes in Mridangam competitions at National and International levels.

Pranav is currently pursuing his Biomedical Engineering Degree at the National University of Singapore; He has done/ been doing internships with top ranking companies in Singapore, India & USA.

It was a pleasure seeing my student after almost 4 years, since he left for overseas studies. He still remember the lessons, though out of touch for a long time. Hailing from a traditional family has been shaping up well as he enters college.
