VISION
To foster an independent organisation that strives for excellence and innovation yet rooted to the basics of Singapore Dikir Barat. PHILOSOPHY
‘Pembuka Mata’, meaning ‘eye-opener’, reflects our commitment to strive for the best in everything we do. The name Wahana Deksu is loosely translated as Wahana – an agent (of knowledge) and Deksu (adik bongsu) – youngest member of the family. The g
roup initially comprised of students from Tanjong Katong Girls’ School and were under the mentorship of the dikir barat group, Raja Laut and subsequently, Kelana Purba. The group then expanded and recruited women from various institutions and has since been based at Bedok Community Centre.
2008 was a milestone for Wahana Deksu as they became the first women’s Dikir Barat team to be fully independent. Wahana Deksu occasionally performs under the name Deq Bongsu, a team that is primarily made up of new and young recruits. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2023
