A lot of people asked why we chose a confinement centre. Here’s the full picture.
Jellies’ pregnancy was brutal: She had Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe nausea and vomiting) that lasted the entire pregnancy. She couldn’t keep water down. She lost weight. She went on drips multiple times. By the time she went in for the C-section, our doctor told us she barely had enough muscle left to stitch her back up.
Nori was a big part of the decision too: She’s turning four and spent nine months watching her mum stuck in bed. We knew if Jellies came straight home, she would push herself for Nori’s sake before her body was ready. The physical separation meant Jellies could recover without guilt and Nori got me at home fully present.
Postpartum had to be different: We chose because they are TCM-based. This aligned with our conviction to let Jellies truly reset and rebuild from the inside out. Everything is in-house... their own kitchen serving fresh meals, on site therapists and wellness specialists, and experienced nannies who handle Shari’s care around the clock.
It worked better than we expected. As Jellies got stronger, we let Nori visit more. By the end, Nori didn’t even want Shari sent away so she could have Jellies to herself. She wanted her meimei there too.
