Recently we completed a four session art pilot workshop for the Singapore Art Museum.

Inspired by Ezzam Rahman’s artwork at the touch collection, we created a four session art workshop for seniors at both the active ageing centre and day care centre.

The frail seniors at the daycare was very challenging but rewarding when they opened up and expressed themselves. We learnt so much to adapting to their needs. From how the space is used, Langugage used and scaffolding instructions.

Both groups made their own flowers and we installed it at their respective spaces.

It was a beautiful to see how the different flowers represented the seniors in The Garden of Us.

The final session was a meaningful lunch exchange and visit to the Singapore Art Museum!

Finger crossed SAM gets the funding to roll this programme out to more centres.

Meanwhile, big thank you to Cecilia and Maria and their bosses and colleagues at SAM and Regina and Jodi for being part of my team!

Why are stories important?

At a recent seniors activity centre residency, I invited the seniors to bring old photographs and share their own stories.

Without a theme, a diverse range of stories emerged.

From growing up in a poor family, learning to earn money for oneself, first job, missing an old lost friendship, gratitude to father for buying a typewriter, back way to the tanjong pagar train station, growing up in a Family of ten, memories of the Japanese occupation, nearly losing all three brothers, learning to sing for a brother's wedding, old wives tales, traditional food to eat at Chinese New year...

What stories will you share?

What do we do with these stories?

The adventure continues.

I will be conducting a creative writing workshop this afternoon at NLB punggol one library!
