Singapore's Paintball Legacy: A Farewell to Bukit Timah Turf City
Singapore, the "Lion City" as we affectionately call it, is a small but mighty island nation. Spanning just 710 square kilometers and home to slightly over 5 million souls, it has earned the endearing moniker "Little Red Dot" from our neighbors. Despite being one of the most expensive places to live in the world, Singapore has always shone brightly on the global stage, radiating an undeniable allure from the East.
They hail it as a land of opulence, a financial powerhouse, and the ultimate destination for Asian cuisine (wink, wink, Malaysia). Yet, amidst all these accolades, there's a tale of grit and passion that resonates deeply within our hearts—the journey of the Singapore Paintball Series (SPS).
Established in 2008 as the Singapore Paintball Novice Series (SPNS), it underwent a transformation in 2010 to become the SPS. Over the course of 15 remarkable years, we have etched countless memories that were once deemed unimaginable. Through highs and lows, we have gathered wisdom from each step taken. Though we may be diminutive in size, our dreams have soared to the skies.
The SPS stands tall as a beacon of adaptability in the paintball world. We have proudly introduced countless "firsts" and surprises along the way—the Big W, NXL bunkers, SPS500, 1vs1, Masters, KTM International, Oliver Lang Clinic, Marina Bay, PALS Singapore, GI Sportz Cup, East vs West, Singapore vs ROW, SPS Dialogue Sessions, and many more. We have reinvented the paintball wheel time and time again.
Unfortunately, this magnificent journey must now take an indefinite pause. The Red Dynasty Paintball Park at Turf City will have to bid farewell by the end of 2023, due to the end of its land lease. Last weekend's SPS marked our grand finale at Bukit Timah after over 15 years of promoting paintball in Singapore and Asia.
As we continue our search for a new home, we cling to hope that competitive paintball in Singapore will soon find a new sanctuary, one we can proudly call our own. As the saying goes, "All good things must come to an end."
In this bittersweet moment, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the teams, referees, media, sponsors, vendors, and partners who have unwaveringly supported us throughout this incredible journey. Without your steadfast dedication, our story would remain untold. Until we embark on our next adventure, let us cherish the memories we have created together.
In this chapter's closure, we can't help but feel a twinge of pity for the beloved Turf City, where dreams took flight and friendships were forged. Farewell, Turf City, and thank you for being our canvas of dreams and battleground of passion.
