acso.sg Championing music through diversity Based in Singapore, the ACSO also seeks to serve as a platform to showcase Singaporean talents.

The Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra (ACSO) was formed in early 2016 with the aim of championing Asian cultural music and symphonic works composed in an Asian aesthetic that go beyond mere melodic and instrumentational pastiche, celebrating them with equal regard to their Western counterparts. The ACSO is a volunteer orchestra comprising of over 80 musicians from various backgrounds who are prima

rily trained in Western classical music. The ACSO provides an avenue for its musicians to explore Asian symphonic music, which is not part of the typical programming of most symphony orchestras, even ones that are based in Asia. The ACSO hopes to bring Asian symphonic music to a wider audience, and that it will be enjoyed by audiences for generations to come.

This concert reflects the journey of growing up: the freedom of independence, the lessons learned from mistakes and the realisation that no matter the distance, family is the one constant that remains.

Featuring singer-songwriter Marcus Lee, up-and-coming soprano Natasha Da Costa, young soprano Arielle Chiang and Cantare Children’s Choir by Khee’s Studio, enjoy heartfelt songs celebrating a parent’s steadfast love, including All Parents Are Alike Under Heaven 《天下的爸妈都是一样的》, Any Wine Bottles For Sale《酒干倘卖无》, Ibu Engkaulah Syurga and You Raise Me Up.

Did you know one of the most iconic erhu pieces was written by a street musician?

Reflections of the Moon on Erquan, composed by the blind busker Hua Yanjun, remains one of the most moving works in Chinese music.

Performed by special guest soloist, SCO Concertmaster Li Baoshun, this piece honours the busking tradition and reminds us that great art often begins in everyday spaces.
