Football Club Genesis (FCG) was established in 2004 by a group of enthusiastic college players looking to satisfy their cravings for a routine of Sunday soccer. Over the years, FCG grew in size and quality and cultivated a core group of committed players who had a collective vision of making a name for FCG in the local soccer scene – from merely a group of various Junior College soccer teammates t
o a skillful team with a blend of working professionals and students of different cultural backgrounds; Chinese, Malay, Indian, Korean, Burmese, and Indonesian among others. In order to realize those dreams, FCG developed strong core values of teamwork, racial harmony, sportsmanship and a never-say-die attitude. The mere cravings for Sunday soccer manifested itself into a passion – almost an obsession – to continually attain greater heights not by individual effort but a collective effort. The years of 2004 to 2008 saw FCG playing friendlies in various pitches around Singapore against diverse background teams – young, old, and a mix of both. Although the team managed to chalk up a decent record during those five years, the players began to develop urges of competing in a professionally-run league. FCG managed to secure a fifth place finish but decided to source for another league with a larger coverage and affiliation with national soccer bodies. The search for a new league did not last long when FCG officially became a Division 4 team of the 2010 Dare to Dream (D2D) Sunday PM League. In our debut season, we handily won the league title by amassing a whooping total of 38 points from a possible total of 45 and were promoted to Division 3. FCG again demolished its rivals by winning Division 3 and staying undefeated in the league throughout the season in 2011. FCG understands that in life, there is no such thing as perfection; we can only strive for excellence in each of matches played. Whenever we won, we knew that our collective effort has paid off; whenever we drew, we realized that the other team has played as well as we have and deserve credit; whenever we lost, we have always recognized that there is an opportunity for us to improve ourselves. Our motto sums up our style of play and attitude towards the beautiful game: ‘Never stop fighting until the final whistle is blown.’
