Everything you need to know about sea cucumbers πŸ‘€πŸŒŠ

Sea cucumbers can be useful members of a marine tank by sifting sand, consuming detritus, and helping recycle nutrients.

But they also need a mature, stable system with good oxygen, stable salinity, and enough natural food. Some species are more sensitive, and not every sea cucumber is suitable for every reef tank.

⚠️ If a sea cucumber dies, its body can decompose quickly and seriously affect water quality. Some species may also release defensive compounds when severely stressed or dying.

If this happens:
βœ… Remove it immediately
βœ… Run fresh activated carbon
βœ… Perform a large water change
βœ… Test ammonia
βœ… Watch the rest of the livestock closely

Always identify the species first before adding one to your tank.

🐠 How Can a Female Molly Give Birth Without a Male?

Female Mollies can store s***m from an earlier mating inside microscopic folds within their ovarian tissue. The stored s***m may fertilise future batches of eggs for several monthsβ€”even when no male is currently in the tank!

⚠️ Breeder warning: An adult female from a mixed tank may already be carrying stored s***m. Her future broods may not be fathered only by your chosen male, and one brood can even have multiple fathers!

For controlled breeding, raise virgin females separately from males from a young age.

Also use PNS bacteria to help improve water quality, especially when raising fry. Good filtration and regular water changes are still essential.

🦠 PSB Bacteria

πŸ›’ https://s.shopee.sg/20v5rUd1sY

Oyster in a reef tank? πŸ¦ͺ🌊 Possible, but there are risks.

Oysters are filter feeders and can be peaceful reef inhabitants, but they still need stable water parameters, good water movement, and enough suspended food.

⚠️ Things to watch out for:
πŸ’© Biodeposits can add nutrients to the system
🍽️ Very clean tanks may not provide enough natural food
πŸ’§ Poor placement or unstable water can stress them
☠️ If an oyster dies, decomposition can quickly affect water quality, especially in a small tank

PSB bacteria can support the aquarium’s microbial system and help with organic waste management, but it does not replace proper filtration, maintenance, or feeding.

5 fun facts about saltwater tanks 🌊🐠

1️⃣ A marine tank is like having a tiny piece of the ocean at home
2️⃣ Stable salinity, temperature, pH, and alkalinity are key to keeping livestock healthy
3️⃣ Corals are animals, not plants
4️⃣ Good filtration and water flow help keep the system clean and oxygenated
5️⃣ Patience matters because a healthy reef tank develops over time

Want that classic purple reef-rock look? Coralline algae is one of the things that gives established marine tanks their natural appearance πŸ’œ

Jorunna funebris β€” the beautiful black & white β€œPanda” nudibranch 🐼🌊

It may look easy to keep, but this is an expert-level specialist feeder. Its biggest challenge is food β€” Jorunna funebris feeds on specific live sponges and is known to associate with certain blue Neopetrosia-type sponges.

βœ… Mature, stable reef tank
βœ… Gentle to moderate flow
βœ… Keep away from pumps and strong suction
βœ… Avoid copper and harsh medications
βœ… Keep fully submerged during handling
⚠️ Prepared foods, algae and generic coral foods are not reliable replacements for its natural sponge diet.

Do not buy one unless you can provide the correct live sponge long-term β€” starvation is one of the biggest reasons they fail in captivity.
