In frame: “Fenghuang S***f Bottle” by Hannah Lim, now on view at Appetite as part of our ongoing exhibition “Elemental Form”.

Hannah Lim is a Singaporean British artist based in London, whose work draws on her multicultural heritage and upbringing. With a keen interest in how art, design, architecture and furniture reflect the relationship between different cultures, Lim creates sculptural works that explore different cultural styles and motifs, often drawing inspiration from Chinese literature, historical aesthetic trends such as Chinoiserie, as well as from her research into Asian artefacts found in British museums. The s***f bottle in particular has inspired many of Lim’s signature anthropomorphic vessels.

Fenghuang S***f Bottle (2026) is a nod to ‘nyonya ware’ ceramics, which Lim was captivated by during her visit to Singapore’s Peranakan Museum last June. These vividly coloured ceramics were often decorated with intricate floral details and majestic fenghuang (phoenixes), considered an auspicious symbol in Chinese culture, but also appearing in myths across several different cultures.

Appetite is open for art visitors every Saturday from 12-5pm; come by to view this, and other artworks, in person, or DM to book a viewing by appointment 🐦‍🔥

On 29th & 30th June, we welcome our friends from Sydney’s Porcine into our little home for two nights only.

Porcine has become one of Australia’s most quietly remarkable restaurants - an independent bistro rooted in classical French technique, neighbourhood rhythm, and the simple, difficult act of doing things very, very well.

Chef & co-owner Nik Hill joins Ivan in the kitchen for a collaborative dinner that brings together Porcine’s love of old-school French cooking and Appetite’s restless appetite for delicious ideas. Matt Fitzgerald, Porcine’s co-owner and front-of-house force, will also be with us, bringing the kind of hospitality that makes the room feel as important as the plate.

There will be technique. There will be wine. There will probably be a little mischief.

Come hungry.

In frame: “Roots” and “Mangrove Apparatus” by Hans Chew, with botanicals by Fawn World. Now on show aa part of our ongoing exhibition “Elemental Form”.

“Roots” (2022) was inspired by Hans Chew’s observation of plant roots when he was re-potting plants. This sculpture investigates how the technique of coiling can produce a lattice-like structure that is built upon vertically. Through repetition, the coils intersect and overlap to create a dense yet permeable form bearing the organic quality of roots.

“Mangrove Apparatus” (2026) is a series of interlocking candle holders that resemble tangled, root-like formations reminiscent of mangrove systems. Built as individual units, they can be organically arranged in a web to form a landscape of irregular rhythms.

Come see these works in person- we’re open every Saturday from 12-5pm for art visitors, or DM to book a viewing by appointment.

In frame: vases by Sean Lim, part of our ongoing exhibition “Elemental Form”.

Sean Lim learned his craft from master potters at Sam Mui Kuang over a decade ago, and has since developed a distinctive style of his own. Lim’s artistic signature is inspired by snowy landscapes – heavy snowfall, mist, slush and ice. Each of his tactile pieces conjures a unique snowscape, achieved through multiple firings in an electric kiln, and the dexterous layering of glazes over clay tempered with grog mixed from various sources, including the artist’s own backyard. Lim’s highly collectable vessels are little universes of their own, inviting contemplation and enjoyment as singular pieces, or displayed as a family.

Come see these works in person - we’re open every Saturday from 12-5pm for art visitors, or DM to book a viewing by appointment.

“Elemental Form” brings together a selection of ceramic works in conversation with paintings and botanical arrangements. Shaped by the alchemy of the four elements – earth, fire, water and air, traditionally considered the building blocks of matter and the physical universe – the ceramic vessels by Hans Chew and Sean Lim capture a sense of these natural forces and symbolic energies with their organic shapes and intimations of landscapes. These explorations in form are echoed in Fawn World’s botanical arrangements that respond to Chew’s vessels, as well as in Tay Bak Chiang’s minimalist paintings that evoke the monumentality of stone and the vitality of energy in motion. Finally, ‘elemental’ could also refer to essential or constituent parts of a whole: a notion explored in Singaporean-British artist Hannah Lim’s anthropomorphic s***f bottles that draw on the artist’s mixed parentage and multicultural background, bringing together elements from various cultures and artistic traditions.

Join us for an intimate sake pairing dinner with Sean Lim and Maria Satoh, celebrating the art and pleasure of sake. Each course is paired with sake served in carefully chosen wares, showing how subtle shifts in form and material can change the way flavour is perceived and understood across the meal.

Sean Lim is a Singaporean ceramicist, who learned his craft from the master potters of Sam Mui Kuang over a decade ago. He is known for his distinctive and tactile ‘snowscape’ vessels which include tsubos and sake wares. Sean is also an avid collector of Japanese ceramics and sake vessels, and will be bringing items from his personal collection to showcase during this conversation.

Maria Satoh is a sake sommelier at Sake Bar Orihara Shoten, one of Singapore’s longest-standing and most focused sake bars, with direct ties to producers across Japan. She works across a broad range of styles and breweries, focusing on how sake behaves with food and how its character shifts depending on how it is approached.
