The SCMF 2026 Celebration Concert brought the festival to a vibrant close, marking a finale that embodied the festival’s spirit to 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲, and 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲!
Festival artists, both international and local faculty came together in an all-star programme of chamber music, showcasing the breadth and depth of collaboration that defined this year’s festival. 🎶🎻
The evening opened with Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96 “American” (I. Allegro ma non troppo), performed by the Crescendo Quartet, our youngest quartet participants of this year’s Chamber Music Academy: Cathy Chen, Elliot Lim, Kaden Khew, and Madeline Grace Sim.
This was followed by Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44, featuring Aoi Trio 葵トリオ's Kosuke Akimoto (piano) with members of the Concordia Quartet (Wilford Goh, Kim Kyu Ri, Edward Tan, and Lin Juan).
Brahms’ String Sextet No. 1 in B-flat major, Op. 18 brought together Yang Shuxiang, Kyoko Ogawa, Kirsten Docter, Jeremy Chiew, Leslie Tan, and Yu Ito in a richly textured and expansive performance.
The concert concluded with Golijov’s Last Round for Double Quartet and Bass, featuring Jonathan Ong, Sandy Yamamoto, Kyoko Ogawa, Yang Shuxiang, Jeremy Chiew, Kirsten Docter, Yu Ito, Lin Juan, and Kuek Jia Xin on double bass — a powerful finale inspired by the boxing-themed writing of Julio Cortázar.
As the final notes resonated, the concert stood as a fitting close to SCMF 2026: a celebration of artistry, collaboration, and the shared language of chamber music.
Thank you for joining us at SCMF 2026!
